"Remind me again what we're looking out for?" Lukas asked as he drew his iron sword. He and Petra both stood guard at the gate, listening to the silence of the night.
"Anything that might be abnormal," Petra advised, leaning on her golden sword. "Though, that shouldn't be a problem for us."
Lukas scoffed. "No kidding."
Petra narrowed her eyebrows as she scanned the horizon, searching for something that wasn't there. "You hear that?"
"What?" Lukas said.
"Exactly. I'm not hearing any zombies, or skeletons, or spiders, or anything."
"That's a good thing... right?" Lukas tried for his famous smile.
"Usually, yeah," Petra admitted. "But considering the fact that a couple people were just attacked today by some guy who has weird powers... it would almost be more reassuring if the monsters were here."
Lukas's eyes wandered towards the moon that was slowly rising up into the sky. He was trying to focus on the task at hand, but his brain kept telling him to worry about Jesse. Lukas had heard how she snapped at Olivia and Axel. Lukas had seen how tired she was.
Petra seemed to be distracted as well, so Lukas took a shot. "Hey, do you know what's up with Jesse?"
She hesitated. That was a dead giveaway. "No... um, why do you ask?"
Lukas narrowed an eyebrow. "You know something," He deadpanned. "Petra, I'm her friend. We're all her friends. We deserve to know, or at least I do. Jesse's act isn't fooling me."
Petra folded her arms. She sighed. "Okay, I give. I do know something, but it's not my place to tell. I respect Jesse's privacy, and if she wants to keep it a secret, then I resolve to keep my mouth shut."
"Petra-"
"Nope."
Lukas groaned in frustration, and continued to do his job. He would find out what was wrong with Jesse himself. He still wished Jesse would tell everyone, though. If one of his closest friends was in trouble, he hated being left in the dark.
Lukas was snapped out of his thoughts when he heard a noise coming from the woods. It sounded oddly familiar... and short, like a scream or a yelp.
Then came the explosion.
"Over there!" Petra exclaimed. She and Lukas sprinted into the woods, not running into a single mob. Lukas was falling behind Petra a few steps, but he did not stop running.
"Petra! Lukas!" The voice screamed. "Help!"
Lukas' eyes widened and he glanced at Petra. "That's Jesse!"
They ran faster.
When they got there, their hearts sank as they skidded to a stop. The entire area had been bombarded. Some of the trees had been blown to smithereens- nothing but floating trunks and leaves remained. Pools of lava in craters were scattered all over the place.
Petra hastily scanned the area. What she saw made her heart stop. There was Jesse, in an unconscious heap on the ground. "Jesse!" She yelled, racing towards her friend.
"Oh, no." Lukas murmured worriedly, trailing after Petra. Petra dropped to her knees at Jesse's side and carefully turned over her body. The black haired girl wasn't moving, but from the rise and fall of her chest Petra could see she was still alive. There was a large cut on the side of Jesse's head. She must've been knocked out by something hard.
"We need to get her back," Petra advised, taking Jesse's arm and laying it across her shoulders. Lukas did the same with the other.
Suddenly, there was a hissing noise, but it sounded nothing like a creeper's. Lukas and Petra's heads craned back and forth.
"YOU WILL DO NOTHING."
The voice came from right next to them. Petra's blood turned cold, and she glanced at the body between her and Lukas. Jesse's head was lifted up, her eyes open like she was awake. But it wasn't her emerald green eyes. These creepy eyes were glowing white. Jesse's lips curled into a smile. It was unnatural. It wasn't Jesse's smile.
"There is no escape from me!" Her voice growled. "The chosen one will be mine."
Jesse's eyes faded to green once more. They looked exhausted, and unfocussed. "Petra....? Lukas....?" She murmured weakly. Her eyes rolled into the back of her head and she went limp.
"Jesse?" Petra called again, lightly shaking the girl to get her to wake, but it didn't work.
"Petra, we need to get back," Lukas said seriously, adjusting his hold on Jesse. "If whoever attacked Jesse is still around, the town might be in trouble."
Petra seemed more confused about what had just happened, but her expression turned stern. "You're right. Let's go."
They ran for it."Where are Petra and Lukas?!" Ivor screeched. Yup, you guessed it. The town was in flames, and everyone was in a panic. Some people were cowering behind bushes, or in their houses. Others were running amiss, as TNT fell from the sky torrentially. Harper, Ivor, Olivia and Axel along with a few of the citizens were hiding around the corner in the treasure room.
"Aw man, we just got this place fixed!" Axel complained.
"What do we do?" Olivia said. "We can't just hide forever!"
"We need to find Petra, Lukas and Jesse," Ivor advised.
"If Petra and Lukas aren't fighting out there, maybe they're in trouble!" Olivia gasped.
"Or maybe Jesse's with them," Axel said.
Axel peered around the wall, and scanned the area. Out of the corner of his eye, he spotted a tuft of red hair. His eyes lit up when he saw whose it was. Just a little beyond the gates, hiding behind a bush, crouched Petra. She was with Lukas, and in their arms they were propping up... Jesse? Axel's eyes widened with worry. She appeared to be unconscious, with a nasty cut on the side of her head. There was no way Petra and Lukas could get through that chaos while carrying Jesse.
"There they are!" Axel exclaimed. Olivia, Harper, and Ivor all cried out in delight and peeked out with him. Lukas caught their eyes, and he grinned. He tapped on Petra's shoulder and gestured to the others. Axel couldn't tell what he was saying, but he looked urgent.
Meanwhile, Petra and Lukas were having an argument. "I'll go out there and get the others here safely." Lukas suggested, getting to his feet.
"No, I'll go!" Petra demanded. Jesse was in her arms now.
"Petra, I need to do this," Lukas insisted. He glanced down at Jesse. "Look, you keep Jesse safe. I'll be right back."
"Lukas!" Petra shouted angrily, but the idiot had already drawn his iron sword and was charging towards the others. She couldn't believe anyone could be that stupid! Why would that idiot risk his life for someone unless-
Her eyes widened, and she glanced down at Jesse, whose eyes were still closed.
Petra chuckled. "Oh, you are so not getting out of this one, Lukas."
Lukas charged towards Axel and the others. Axel and Olivia were grinning while Ivor looked annoyed. "I thought you were supposed to be guarding the town?!" He pointed out.
Lukas rolled his eyes. "We don't have time for this! We've got to get out of here. Fast."
There were more citizens huddled in the treasure room, listening in on their conversation. "What does this guy want with us?" Axel remarked. "We never did anything to him!"
"Directly? No," Lukas admitted. "But I think there might be more to this. These people are in trouble, and we can't just-"
"HIIIIIIIYAAAAAA!"
Lukas blinked. "What was that?"
The others turned around and glanced back outside. A woman had charged into the fray. She drew out two iron swords, and twisted her body, slicing two monsters at once. TNT came towards her, and she punched it out of the way. This woman was oddly familiar- ebony locks and golden clothing. Her green eyes were flaring with raw power.
"No way!" Lukas cried out.
"What dude? Who is she?" Axel wondered.
Lukas beamed at Ivor. "It's the Founder!"
Lukas and Ivor sprinted up to her, along with Axel and Olivia. Harper stayed behind with the rest of the citizens. Isa was panting, sweat pouring down her forehead, but she looked as healthy and deadly as ever. "Nice to see you again." Isa remarked.
"You have impeccable timing!" Ivor said, placing his hands on his hips.
"How did you find our world?" Lukas said.
Isa grinned, and she brushed a hair from her eyes. "I've still got a few tricks up my sleeves."
"Whoa whoa whoa!" Olivia made a time out symbol. "How do you three know each other?"
"Oh, Founder, Olivia and Axel, Olivia and Axel, the Founder. She's the ruler of Sky City." Lukas introduced.
"Well, it's called Unity City, now," Isa corrected. "It can't be Sky City anymore if it's on the ground. But we followed Jesse's advice, and Milo and I cooperated."
"That's great, but we've got bigger problems on our hands!" Ivor shouted, gesturing to the chaos around them.
Isa's expression turned serious. "You're right. Gather up your people. It's time for me to repay the favour."
