Jesse peered around the corner, eyes alert and focussed. There was nobody down the corridor, so she signalled Ivor and Petra to go on ahead. They snuck around Jesse and the three of them walked as quietly as a mouse to the end.
"This reminds me of when we were sneaking around Soren's place in the End, trying to get away from all those endermen." Petra whispered.
"Let's hope this situation turns out better than that one did," Jesse replied quietly. They were just passing a room with a door opened slightly ajar, when all of a sudden they were yanked into it.
"You fools!" Jesse was most unpleased to see that it was Amelia. "Are you trying to get us caught?!"
"Nice to see you too," Petra murmured, placing her hands on her hips.
"What's with everyone?" Jesse asked. "Why are they all... you know... zombie like?"
"Unbelievable," Amelia blurted, smacking her forehead. "This is obviously the work of Herobrine!"
"If that is true then he probably disguised himself as you and took Axel, Olivia and Lukas," Petra said.
"I thought we already established this," Ivor hissed with an eye roll.
"The other World Leaders are missing as well," Amelia exclaimed. "These people are doomed, and it's all your fault!" She jabbed her finger into Jesse's chest.
"Hey, back off," Petra demanded dangerously. "You can't blame all of this on Jesse!"
"There's nothing that says I can't either," Amelia deadpanned. "Here's the facts, princess, this place remained untouched by the enemy until your little friend came around!"
Jesse flinched, though in the dark nobody could notice. She couldn't help but notice that Amelia was right. She put her friends, and everyone else in danger. This whole thing started because Herobrine was trying to find her so she would be out of the way.
      "Shut it!" Petra growled.
"Petra, stop," Jesse ordered, shocking Petra into silence. It was never good when two red heads got into a fight.
      "Jesse?" Petra said.
"She's right," Jesse snapped. "All of this did happen because of me. That's why I'm here- to fix it. Now, I'd like to find a way out of here if you don't mind, Amelia?"
Amelia glared at Jesse, but obliged to Jesse's request. "There is a secret route. In the bathrooms... but they're on the opposite side of the corridor from here. Need I remind you that there are thousands of mind controlled people out there?!"
"I've still got some enderpearls," Jesse exclaimed, showing it to them. "Theres four left. That's one for each of us." She passed them out.
"We'd better do this fast," Ivor suggested, and Jesse agreed. He crept out first, stepping out into the corridor, and rounding the corner to a hall that overlooked the great room. The others followed, and Amelia gestured to the opposite corner. Ivor nodded, rearing back as he aimed, and tossed the enderpearl. It hit the wall, right on target. In a few seconds, Ivor was gone. He reappeared at the other end, flailing his arms.
"Okay, Petra," Jesse whispered. "Go." Petra nodded and tossed the enderpearl, teleporting a little farther away than Ivor. She stumbled to the floor, but picked herself up. Amelia went next, her aim perfect. She landed on her feet and brushed herself off calmly, as if teleportation didn't effect her. Finally, it was Jesse's turn. She took out the last remaining enderpearl, reared back, and threw it. Unfortunately, her aim wasn't as true as the others. It smacked Ivor right in the face.
Whoops. Jesse winced, shrugging as Ivor glared at her. Then she was gone, spiralling through a blurred world. She landed on something cushiony, shaking her head to get rid of the dizziness. "Ugh! It's still so disorienting!"
"Kindly get off of me!" A voice beneath her hissed.
      "Ivor! Sorry!"
Jesse pushed herself off of Ivor, then helped him up. Then, the four of them raced to the secret tunnel. It was long and about four blocks wide. Amelia strode on ahead angrily as usual. Petra and Jesse stayed behind, while Ivor was directly behind them.
"Jesse, Amelia was way out of line," Petra murmured. "It's not your fault."
Jesse sighed. "She was right though. You can't ignore the fact that everything she said was true. I did put those people in danger."
      "Jesse-"
"It's okay, Petra," Jesse said with a kind smile. Jesse didn't want Petra to worry about her too much, especially when everything else was going on.
At the end of the tunnel, they reached a ladder, where trapdoors rested at the top. Sunlight leaked through the cracks. "After you." Ivor said with a bright grin. Jesse rolled her eye and climbed the ladder, prying open the trapdoor. The light wasn't too overwhelming. They came out behind two large trees, right on the edge of a forest. They were shaded from the sunlight, and from the forest Jesse could see the entrance to the Headquarters from the side of the mountain.
"Coast is clear." Jesse called, and Ivor, Petra and Amelia came out.
"Let's find us a safe spot to bunk down for the night," Jesse suggested.
They managed to scout out a little cave under a small hill. It was nice and cozy, and only had one way in and one way out so no monsters would surprise them. A roaring fire lit the cave warming them all up. It took the rest of the day to find it, so the stars and moon had risen high in the sky.
"I sure hope the others are okay," Petra said sadly.
"Me too," Jesse agreed, rubbing her sore, exhausted feet. She'd taken off her armour for the night and was wearing her casual clothes; a red and white t-shirt and blue overalls.
"I just want to know why they were taken," Petra wondered. "And the other Jesse completely ignored Ivor and I when they did."
"My guess would be that Herobrine wants leverage over Jesse," Ivor piped up.
"Why not us though?" Petra said.
"Even an all powerful being has their limits. Perhaps he can only travel with three other companions." Ivor had a point.
"Let's just say I can relate," Jesse said, a smirk creeping onto her face. "Being an all powerful being is exhausting."
      "Ha-ha," Petra chuckled.
"Don't flatter yourself." Ivor gave her a toothy grin.
"How can you three losers joke at a time like this?" Amelia sneered in annoyance. She glowered at Jesse. "Innocent people are in danger, the fate of the world is at stake, and you're laughing!"
"I'm well aware of that. You seem to forget that some of those people are my people too," Jesse reminded her. "I care about them just as much as you do. Right now, we need to figure out our next move- instead of trying to pick up a fight with someone who's trying to help-" She glared accusingly at Amelia. "-or they will be doomed."
Amelia folded her arms. "Alright. If you know what you're doing, tell us the plan then."
Jesse stood there awkwardly, and rubbed her left arm.
"You don't have a plan! I knew it!" Amelia laughed humourlessly. Her shadow danced off the walls as the flames did.
"Actually, I have a plan," Ivor piped up. He'd been so quiet since they left, which was abnormal, considering his usual adventuring enthusiasm. "You may judge me and my love of books, Petra, but they contain very useful information. In that book, it mentioned a shrine that is coincidentally not too far from here. It's located in an ice spike biome, inside a mountain."
Jesse gazed at Petra. "What is it with villains and mountains?" She asked. Petra shrugged with amusement.
"I'm thinking we might find something there that will tell us a way to stop Herobrine, and get the others back." Ivor finished.
The four shared looks. Jesse waved her hands. "It's not much, but..."
"It's a plan," Petra agreed. "I say we go for it."
"Cool. Let's get some rest. We leave at dawn."
