Jesse rubbed her arms as the cold icy wind blew. The sun could barely be seen by the horizon as it rose. Tall ice spires stood to their left and right, shimmering in the dim orange light. Jesse glanced worriedly at the sky, where a canopy of dark storm clouds gathered.
"Ivor, are those the mountains?" Jesse gestured to the said mountains in the distance.
"Correct!" Ivor nodded.
"Then we should hurry," Jesse advised. "I don't like the look of those clouds." She glanced up warily, then continued to trudge on through the white powder.
There was a thin path when they reached the foot of the mountain that wound all the way up. "You're kidding me, right?" Petra groaned.
Jesse sighed in annoyance. The hits just kept on coming. She took the lead and began stomping up the mountain, the others following closely behind her.
The sky grew darker, and the wind picked up as the elevation increased. The group huddled together, walking slowly, their shoulders brushing. Jesse blocked the gusting wind, snow and ice from her face. Her normally black hair was dusted with white snowflakes.
Jesse halted when she saw a figure in the icy, narrow path ahead. It was a zombie, it's groaning noises being drowned out by the howling of the wind. She thrust her arms to her sides, stopping her friends in their tracks. She drew her diamond sword, and charged at the zombie. She sliced it across the chest, and stabbed it in the back as it fell, and it died in a puff of smoke.
"The storm's getting worse!" Ivor warned, shouting over the wind. "If we don't find some shelter soon, we'll freeze to death!"
Jesse opened her mouth, about to say something, when Petra cried out in alarm. "Jesse!" Jesse's eyes widened, and she spun around. A creeper had snuck up on her, and was blinking like it was about to go off. Nobody was quick enough to stop it.
It exploded, and the force blew Jesse and Amelia over the edge of the mountain. Jesse screamed, free falling for a moment, until she grabbed hold of something dangling over the side. She soon realized she was grabbing onto Amelia's ankles. Amelia screeched, and saw Jesse clinging on.
"Jesse! Amelia! Hold on!" Ivor exclaimed. Petra grabbed hold of Amelia's wrist and pulled hard, Ivor assisting as well. Gravity seemed to be winning this fight. Jesse's numb fingers were slipping.
"Guys!" Jesse shouted, her eyes wide as she hung on. Did she dare look down? Curiosity got the better of her, and she paled. Below her was a torrential river, the current so strong she could see the water was white.
Sweat gathered above Petra's brows as she grunted with effort trying to tug both Amelia and Jesse up. Ivor was panting as well. The elevation and short oxygen content didn't help them at all.
We're too heavy. Jesse realized, noticing Amelia's hand that was still clutching to the mountain beginning to slip. There was no way Jesse was going to lose another person ... even someone as stubborn as Amelia. Her eyes narrowed into slits as she glanced down to the river. She could survive that, right?
She took a shaky breath, hardly believing what she was about to do. She gazed into Petra's eyes.
"You can't pull both of us up!" Jesse cried. Petra continued to tug on Amelia's arm desperately, her orange hair whipping in the horrendous wind.
"Jesse, just hold on!" She commanded.
"Petra, it's okay!" Jesse promised, green eyes sparkling with determination. Petra couldn't believe what she was hearing. "I'll meet you guys there, alright?"
      "Jesse, don't-"
"Petra, I'm counting on you."
Jesse closed her eyes tightly, and pried her fingers off of Amelia's ankle. The sound of Petra's and Ivor's cries reached her ears. Her breath was sucked from her lungs as she began to plummet, directly into the river below.
The first thing she felt when she hit the water was the shocking cold. She was soaked to the bone, choking and spluttering, trying to paddle. The current was too strong, and Jesse learnt that she shouldn't fight it. She relaxed herself, and let herself go under, allowing the river to carry her where it wanted to. Jesse spun under the waves, the cold stinging her skin. She broke the surface, and gasped for a breath, but immediately went under again. This cycle went on and on for what seemed like hours, until Jesse finally slowed down into a pool of water.
She found the strength to swim upwards, inhaling the air deeply and pulling herself upwards and out of the water. Jesse coughed up water from her lungs, and glanced around in exhaustion. She appeared to be in a cave... or a dungeon of some sort. That river looked like it was an entrance.
Jesse perked up. The shrine! This must be the place! She was shivering violently, her dripping black hair stuck to her face. She needed to get warm, and fast.
Jesse hastily prepared a fire, her weak, shaky limbs barely able to light the flint and steel. The fire sprang to life, and she sighed at it's warmth. The cold in her fingertips was melting away, causing them to tingle.
But she wasn't done yet. She took off her armour gently, and placed it by the fire to dry. Her overalls and shirt were soaking wet as well, but she had nothing else to change into. Jesse sat by the fire, which danced in the darkness, and waited.
Wondering about the other's location, Jesse pulled out the amulet. Olivia and Axel's lights were completely out, of course, but Petra's blue light was glowing dimly. That meant that she hadn't travelled that far downstream, and she really was inside the shrine. Jesse sighed.
Her eyes were getting droopy, but she knew it was dangerous to fall asleep when you were cold. She felt all the weariness from that week, but fought it. She felt all of the losses. Jesse missed the others. If they were there, they'd be right by Jesse's side, trying to figure out ways to stop Herobrine. Axel would be cracking jokes, Olivia would be laughing at them, and Lukas... Lukas would be next to her, telling her everything would be fine.
Stay strong, Jesse, She told herself. She needed to do whatever it takes to end Herobrine's ways, and rescue her people and her friends. Even if it cost her her own life.
Some feeling started to come back into her limbs, and she took a wavering breath. She only hoped the others had better luck than she did.

Petra couldn't believe what just happened. Things went too fast. The creeper, Jesse and Amelia being thrown over the edge, Jesse letting go.
After that ordeal they'd managed to make it out of the storm and into the dark and spooky shrine, which reminded Petra of the temple where they found the enchanted flint and steel. The walls, floors and ceiling were made entirely from stone bricks. Petra could hear the roaring wind from outside.
"We made it." Ivor breathed in relief.
"I can't believe Jesse's... gone," Petra muttered sadly.
"We don't know that she's... you know," Ivor reminded her. "She might be alive."
Petra nodded, then glared at Amelia, who'd stayed silent the whole time. Amelia recoiled a bit, flames roaring in Petra's eyes. Her voice was low and dangerous. "If I find out you let her fall..." Petra gnarled.
Amelia's mouth formed a thin line, and she stayed quiet, receiving Petra's threat loud and clear.
I'll meet you guys there, alright?
Petra, I'm counting on you!
Whatever Jesse's motive was, Petra knew that somewhere, Jesse was still alive. Otherwise she wouldn't have made that promise. "Let's go. I don't want to stick around when some monster decides to make us their lunch." Petra ordered.
"Who put you in charge?" Amelia asked. Petra glowered at her.
"Jesse did," She deadpanned.
"I'm just supposed to-"
"SHUT IT!"
Amelia was stunned into silence, realizing that the tip of Petra's gold sword was close to her chin. "I trust my friend," Petra said menacingly. "And she trusts me. If that isn't good enough for you then I suggest you leave right now and let the monsters kill you."
Petra lowered the sword and stomped ahead with Ivor, while Amelia walked slowly behind, completely flabbergasted. "Lunatics." She murmured under her breath.
Amelia was silent for the rest of the trip. Petra was glad, too, because she couldn't bare to hear her obnoxious complaining voice again, especially if she was insulting Jesse.
Petra couldn't help but agree with Axel's astute observations on Jesse. Jesse was a natural born leader, and nobody hesitated to listen to her. No one questioned her orders or ideas. Jesse had certainly proven herself against that Wither. Then, she'd gone above and beyond, taking down many enemies, making many new allies. There was just something about her that made her likeable; made her stand out above the rest.
"Petra?" Ivor's voice interrupted her thoughts.
"Oh, hey Ivor," Petra said, glancing at him, but keeping her head straight forward.
"You've got that look."
"Um... what?"
"That, 'If looks could kill' look."
"Oh." Petra hadn't noticed she was clenching her jaw until it felt sore. "I'm just worried about Jesse."
"She's a stubborn one," Ivor said. "She'll be fine."
Petra nodded, but then her eyes drifted to movement in the shadows. She hovered her sword in front of her, Ivor and Amelia drawing their own. Five zombies came limping out of the darkness. Petra unleashed her fury, taking out one zombie easily. One by one, the rest of the four went down, Petra the last one standing. She panted.
"Nice one." Ivor said.
Petra took one step forward, but faltered when she heard a clicking sound. She glanced to her feet. Her foot had snagged a tripwire. "Oh, crud."
BOOM!
TNT blasted a hole beneath their feet, and they fell through, landing star fish style in the middle of a floor below. "This is not our day!" Ivor piped up, moaning as he got to his feet.
Petra pushed her head of the ground, and her jaw dropped at the sight. They were in a large cavern, pathways lined with gold. In the middle of the room sat a pedestal of some sort. It was made of gold, with a lit netherrack placed on top, and red stone torches all around.
"What is this thing?" Petra marvelled.
Ivor answered for her, his expression grim. "That, my friend, is the thing that spawned Herobrine into this world."
"You mean this thing summoned Herobrine?" Petra clarified. Ivor nodded. "Why can't we just destroy it?"
"Because Herobrine is already here," Ivor pointed out. "If we were to destroy it, it would have the same effect as my potion did on the Wither-storm."
They stared at the spawner for a bit, until groaning filled the room- like metal on cement. Petra felt shivers go down her spine. "This place gives me the creeps. Let's keep looking. Maybe we'll find a way to stop Herobrine nearby."
Ivor nodded and gestured for her to lead the way. The corridor they were in was long, and cold. They reached an intersection where they could either go right or left. Petra looked to the left and saw a flickering light at the end of the tunnel. Her eyes narrowed into slits, and she crept down it, drawing her sword.
The light was bright and orange, like a fire. Petra pushed herself against the wall and gestured to the other two. She pounced, on top of someone, and the two rolled. Petra landed on top of the person, sword pointed at their face. Her eyes widened when she finally recognized them.
"Jesse?!"
