I flop onto the ground and the child rhyme repeats in my head. It is called The Prophecy for a reason! How thick headed can I be? Very apparently. I was told that it was an actual prophecy one day in class, but me being the person I am, I totally ignored that little tidbit because there was no actual proof. The guard stares at me for a moment before murmuring. "We have to go otherwise the Trial will be delayed on our account." Oh ya, the Trial. The Trial where my brother, Vlayd was sent out into the Beyond to die. The Trial where my sister's tongue was cut out because she asked one curious question to the Leaders. And now the Trial where I will receive some ludicrous punishment for something I had no over.
I just repeat what I had said earlier, "Damn."
The guard shifts from foot to foot uncomfortably before quietly stating, "M'lady we have to go now. We need to get you to the Leaders, we must tell them the truth before it is too late."
"And what is the truth?" I ask as I get to my feet. That I'm like a reincarnation? That I can see death before it comes? That I'm a freak of nature?
"That you didn't kill the boy, that you only knew about the sabota-" he cuts himself off. "Old tower because the Vision let you. That you are the one we have been waiting for, to end our life of no choice, for once and for all. That you are her."
I groan, "I just wanted to live a normal boring life. And now here I am, with a dead boyfriend and a title and expectations on my head. Expectations that I will never be able to meet."
Oh yes, you will- Or at least I think you will... Just have some faith kid.
The guard just ignores me and leads me again through the dark corridors only being illuminated by a few evenly spaced lit torches along the walls.
I then say, "I can't be her- I'm no one. I'm hardly a civil member to society, I can't be a-a-" I take a calming breath before shouting, "a Goddess!"
"You are," he replies with such displaced certainty that all I can do is scoff.
"Okay, Mr. I-know-everything," I grumble moodily.
"M'lady can we not do this? We have arrived at the door to the Trial." he keeps a steady, respective voice as he talks to me.
I am about to tell him that we have to do that, but he stops me with a stern glance. I sigh and nod at him to open the door. He opens the door in a surprisingly soft grip on the door in his black leather gloves. Once the door is open a huge roar sounds and I find myself quivering in my shoes. The friendly guard gives me a reassuring nod and I take a hesitant step through the door. He comes out after me and he shuts the door with a slam. I would've scolded him for harming the door (like I usually do when my friends slam a door) if I wasn't for the crowd in front of me yelling out for bloodlust.
They haven't changed at all. They are still as bloodthirsty as they were when I was down here before. Ruthless creatures, don't you think? 10 centuries gone for what? A bigger arena for events like this?
Silently I agree with the voice that they are bloodthirsty, but ignore the part about the "before". And I also ignored the whole part about centuries- but they sure are ruthless.
No biggy, I'm The Stadium is where the Trial is held, I can handle that. It's just sickening that everyone has to attend to watch the punishments. My eyes flit over to where my usual spot between my sister, Shay, and Bailey. My seat is unsurprisingly empty, but what gives me a little hope is that neither Bailey, my parents, nor my sister either, were clapping and yelling out for my blood.
At least they don't hate me.
Well yet...
The guard takes my left wrist carefully and gently leads me to the center of the balcony I am currently on. The balcony extends to the other side of the arena. The seats for the inhabitants of Tatheu are to the left of the entrance of the arena and the balcony where the Leaders and the convict are on the right. The guard walks over to the Leaders who sit in big, golden chairs, dressed in golden, extravagant robes, and they talk for a while. Quick whispers are exchanged and startled glances are thrown my way.
