~ GIF Of Adam ~

I brought my car to a slow stop in my driveway and turned it off, then sat back in the driver's seat thinking about the car ride back to the park with Kian. We didn't say a word to each other the entire way back, but I could feel his eyes glancing over at me from time to time. I felt a little uncomfortable every time and each time I glanced back, his eyes would already be back on the road.

I sighed shaking my head trying not to think about Kian.

I knew going out with him would be a mistake.

I sighed again, taking the keys out of the socket and getting out of the car. I slightly slammed the car door behind me, then looked for the house key on my chain as I walked toward the front door. I unlocked the front door and slipped inside making sure I didn't make any sound since it was almost 1:30 in the morning. I turned out facing the front door as I closed it and locked it back up with one hand pressing against it. I stood there for a second taking a deep breath, then around turned.

As soon as I turned, a light turned and my eyes flickered up. Sitting at the end of the couch, I saw...

Adam.

"Adam." I said looking at him with wide eyes, "What are you doing up?" I asked with a little-embarrassed giggle.

"Waiting for you to get home." He replied in a serious tone as he just stared at me.

"Where's dad?" I asked glancing around.

"Upstairs." He answered nodding towards the stairs, "He came home, immediately went upstairs and passed out on his bed." He explained. I nodded glancing down at my feet, knowing that our dad usually did that when he would come home pretty wasted after work.

"Ariel." Adam said getting my attention back as I flickered my eyes up to him, "Where were you? It's 1:30 in the morning and you promised you would be home by 10PM."

"Um.. We went out to dinner... After the movie." I lied feeling very nervous, "And I... forgot to text you." I added. He looked at me with one eyebrow raised. I wasn't sure if he was going to believe my lie. I had never lied to him before and how nervous I was definitely showed. I felt my heart pumping and felt myself start to sweat inside.

"Really?" He asked raising one of his eyebrows up at me and I nodded immediately.

"Yeah." I choked out, sounding like a whisper, "Why?" I asked rubbing the back of my fingers as I stared back at him, my body shaking inside.

"Because," He began as he stood up, "I called Julia." He attempted scratching the back of his neck and walking towards me, "When you didn't come home." He added, "And she said she hasn't seen you all night." My eyes widen slightly.

Did he seriously called my best friend to figure out where I was?

Did he not trust me?

If he didn't before, then he definitely won't now.

"Adam." I began trying to explain without telling him the truth, "I-"

"Why did you lie to me?" He asked interrupting me. I sighed glancing down unsure what to say, " I thought we never lied to each other." He commented.

He was definitely wrong about that.

"I'm sorry." I whispered not knowing what else to say, then flickered my eyes up at him as I crossed my arms in front of my chest wanting this conversation to be over so I could just go upstairs and forget this night ever happened.

"Look I think I'm going to go up to bed." I said gesturing toward the stairs beside me, "It's been a long day." I mumbled to myself as I turned and started heading over to the stairs, but with Adam, it wasn't easy getting out of a conversation.

"So where did you go?" He asked before I could even take one step onto the stairs, "Where were you? Since you were obviously not at the movies. Or at dinner." He added with a little irritation in his voice. I rolled my eyes at myself as I sighed heavy completely exhausted before looking his way for the millionth time.

"No where important." I answered with a bit of annoyance toward Adam, "Look I'm really tired." I told him again, "Can we talk in the morning?" I asked begging a little.

"Whatever." He snapped at me, shaking his head and looking away from me. I could tell Adam was mad at me for being out very late, but right now I didn't really care, "See you in the morning." I added still peering over at him.

"We'll see." He replied, then stormed  off into the kitchen. I just shook my head at him, then ran upstairs and went into my bed. I closed the door behind me leaning up against it, closing my eyes as I tried to forgot this night, but I couldn't.

This whole night was disastrous.

From the moment I stepped out of my car at the park.

My thoughts were interrupted by my phone in my back pocket, beeping. I was almost going to scream as I took it out of my pocket. I swear if it was Kian, I was going to throw my phone across the room, but it wasn't.

It was that mystery number.

Don't act like I didn't see you tonight.
