I sat in the waiting area at St. Joseph Hospital, waiting for my dad to get here. He was six or seven hours out of town and I really didn't know how long I had already been here.

"Ariel!" I heard a familiar voice call in the distance. My head popped up and saw my dad standing by a nurse's station staring at me with worried eyes, then quickly came running toward me. I immediately stood up, tears streaming down my face and met him halfway.

"Dad!" I cried wrapping my arms around him, hugging him tightly. He hugged me closely as I cried into his chest.

"Are you okay?" He asked as he looked down at me. I quickly nodded, "Oh thank god." He mumbled to himself hugging me tighter, then said loud enough for me to hear, "I don't know what I'd do if anything happened to you."

"I'm- I'm okay." I whispered back, trying to assure him, "But mom-" I began, but he cut me off.

"I know." He quietly spoke. My eyes flickered up to him, tears streaming down my face, "And I'm so sorry you witnessed that honey." I couldn't control myself and began crying heavily on my dad's shoulder, "You must have been so scared." I heard him say to me, making me start sobbing at the thought of my mother's dead eyes staring lifelessly at me.

"Ariel listen to me." My dad said moving me off his shoulder and looking into my eyes. I flickered my eyes up to his, "You're safe now, alright?" I nodded my head, then I thought of-

"W-Where's Adam?" I choked out through the tears running down my face, "D-Does he know about, m-mom?"

"It's okay." He said as calmly as possible, "He's at Zack's. I talked to his mom and Adam staying there tonight and possibly tomorrow." He explained.

"Does he know?" I asked again and my dad nodded, making me sigh crying.

"Mr. Reed?" We heard a familiar voice to me said. My dad turned around as I looked up and saw one of the officers that brought me here with Detective Pierce, Officer Brooks, "Jason Reed?" He questioned my dad.

"Yes." My dad replied.

"We need to take Ariel to the police station to ask her some questions." Officer Brooks said, "About what happened." My dad sighed and looked at me, seeing how upset and still scared I was right now, "Since Ariel's a minor, we couldn't question her until you got here." He explained as my dad looked back at him.

"Look, it's almost 3 in the morning." My dad told the officer, "It's been a long day. Ariel needs some time to process everything. Can we come down to the station tomorrow?" He asked. Officer Brooks looked at my dad, then at me as tears still streamed down my face.

My dad was right.

I did need time to process what happened tonight before I could explain it to anyone.

"Fine." Officer Brooks finally said. My dad both sighed smiling, thanking him, "But you can't go back home." He told us. My dad looked at him confused, then he explained why "Your house is a crime scene. We can't let you go back there right now."

"Okay." My dad replied as he nodded understanding, then looked at me and whispered, "We'll go to a hotel?" I nodded and my dad hugged me again tightly.

" Come to the police station around 1 or 2?" Officer Brooks asked, and my dad nodded saying yes as he looked over at the officer, "Okay. Go get some rest." He added, then turned to leave us.

"Thank you." My dad whispered to him as he walked away from us, leaving us alone. It felt like forever until he finally let go looking at me, "You ready to get out of here?"

"Yeah." I sighed smiling, "I love you, dad." I added about to tear up again.

"I love you too, Ariel." He replied smiling back at me, then he stood up and we left the hospital. . .
