It had been hours now, and yet I still walked listlessly. My legs dragged doggedly against the pavement, and my arms hung tiredly by my sides. I kept blinking long slow blinks, and rubbed my eyes in a stubborn effort to stay awake. As I walked, I scanned and inspected every inch of my surroundings, hoping to find anything, anything to sleep in. I dragged my self down another street, and found that this one lead into a neighborhood. Suddenly finding the energy, I ran past house after house, each one occupied with one family or another. Every house I ran past spawned another new house next to it, already filled with new occupants, and I longed to be inside one of my own. Upon noticing the street was coming to an end, I ran faster and faster, but this proved pointless as the street ended at an elementary school. Frustrated, I turned around and continued my seemingly endless journey through the city.

However, while I was walking, I did notice that the scratching noise had stopped, and I stopped then too. Until that point, I had simply ignored a seemingly petty noise, reassuring myself that it would eventually go away. Now that it was gone, I didn't know whether to rejoice or long for the familiar sound. Shaking my head, I resolved to continue walking, my head now feeling a little lighter.

I eventually ran out of energy, and, having nowhere else to go, found myself hiding from the treacherous rain in an orchard behind the neighborhood. The city had stopped its construction, I noticed, and I climbed up one of the trees doggedly and stared down at the houses. Their perfect glass windows were full of light, and as I gazed down, I felt a weight drop in my stomach. Everyone in this city had a home except me, and I felt helpless. I climbed down from the tree, and crossing the street, screamed,

"WHAT ABOUT ME?" I didn't know why I did it, or who I was calling out to, but it felt good to let it out. I took a few steps, then collapsed into the grass. I felt a familiar soft grass bed curl under me, and a faint scratching noise fill my ears again before sleep pulled me into its loving arm.

•••Author's Note•••

Hello everyone! I'm back! Sorry if this chapter is really short, this was written awhile ago... Probably going to be edited later, but I'm a lazy bean, so apologies! Also, before I go, most of this story will be written from Sam's POV, so I'm probably going to stop writing that in the title, since it would be repitive. If you have any questions, words of advice or encouragement, let me know below, and stay tuned!
