I sat down on the couch trying to fall asleep. Aspen didn't want to fall asleep, she was to fascinated by Harry to even close her eyes. I looked over at the two of them watching as Aspen would reach for Harry's hair and he'd quickly move it out of his face. I smiled closing my eyes laying my head against the pillow. All of this was hard to come to terms with, Harry and I were finally a family. Something that I never thought would happen was taking place right before my eyes.
I looked over at Harry watching as he tried to lay Aspen down which only led to her fussing. He couldn't handle her little bottom lip poking out and her eyes filling with tears. He would pick her back up before she could even let out a little scream. She's got him wrapped around her little fingers; even though Harry doesn't like to admit that.
I looked down at my watch seeing that it was nearing four in the morning and of course our daughter was still wide awake. There was a solution to this problem but of course Harry wasn't not okay with it. "Harry just put her in her crib."
"She's just going to scream the entire time." He looks at me.
"I know that she is and it pains me to hear her cry to, but she still has to sleep and so do we. She will tire herself out." Harry looks down at Aspen before looking back at me nodding. He stands up from the couch heading upstairs to her nursery and the ear piercing screams coming from Aspen tell me that he's put her down in bed. Aspen gets very fussy when she doesn't get what she wants. And I'm almost certain she's not going to out grow that.
Harry steps back downstairs with the baby monitor in his hand setting it down on the coffee table. "She's not very happy with me at the moment."
"She'll fall asleep soon. Her diaper is changed, she's been fed, she needs to go to sleep." I laugh laying my head on Harry's shoulder. He wraps his arms around me kissing my forehead. We sit in silence for some time before he speaks up.
"I don't know if I ever actually apologized for how I acted about you agreeing to adopt Aspen..."
"Harry we don't have to talk about this. I should have asked you before I agreed to that.."
"You should have, but how I acted and all the things I said we uncalled for. Just for you to nearly die a few days later...And those would have been the last words you heard me say to you. I'm not okay with that...and I'm sorry." I nod simply kissing his cheek knowing that he was in fact sorry.
"Would you have still taken Aspen if I would have...not made it?" The questions seems to catch us both off guard but I still wanted to know what his answer would be.
"I don't know. I don't know if I could do something like this without you." He places his hand on top of mine and I nod knowing that I wasn't sure I could do it without him either. The sound of Aspens screams have managed to die down and I smile knowing that she's starting to fall asleep.
"I'd like to say that your daughter has an attitude problem just like you." I poke Harry's cheek and he looks over at me.
"Me? You have a terrible attitude too!" He laughs making me do the same.
"I do not!"
"Oh you're kidding." He rolls his eyes at me and I quickly straddle this lap crossing my arms over my chest. "You're not kidding?"
"My attitude is just fine." He places his hands against my waist massaging them and it seems as though he's forgotten exactly what we've been talking about. And I know why. I shake my head at him placing my finger to his lips. "Nope not happening."
"Why not?"
"Because I have a terrible attitude." I stick my tongue out before climbing off of Harry dashing up the stairs knowing that he is right behind me.
Later that morning I was heating up a bottle for Aspen as she rolled around in her play pin screaming at all the sounds it was making. I walk over to the pin looking down at her making her giggle. "You're only screaming to get my attention aren't you?" I laugh at her and she kicks her legs a mile a minute.
I lift her out of her play pin holding her in my arms feeding her a bottle. Harry was going into the office today and I knew that meant two things.
1. Harry was going to come home after having a great day at work.
2. Harry was going to come home very angry that the company hadn't been run to his standards while he was gone.
The likelihood that one was a possibility was slim to none. Aspen looked up at me with her hands resting against the bottle as I made faces at her. Both of our heads turned seeing Harry walk down the steps in a nice black suit and a red tie placed perfectly against his chest. I've missed that color on him.
He notices both Aspen and I staring at him and smiles walking into the kitchen kissing up both on the forehead. "Hi Princess" He says to me as well as Aspen making me roll my eyes.
"Try to have a good day at work please and don't fire too many people." He gives me a knowing looks which tells me that plenty of people will probably be losing their jobs today. I grab a dish rag from the table before placing it on my shoulder before burping Aspen.
"If you need anything call me. Or feel free to come to the office or something. Don't hesitate.." I peck his cheek smiling.
"Stop worrying Mr. Styles."
"I'll do my best Mr. Styles."
