Ruby opened her eyes to a bright light.
She must be dead. Nothing in life was this bright. The afterlife maybe was.
Then she drew in a breath that brought about a very sharp pain in her chest, so agonizing she was almost sick.
She sat bolt upright, causing more pain; she started to scream.
Someone squeezed her hand and a voice sailed over her noise;
"It's OK, calm down, you're safe, it's all alright," Tyrese's face appeared in front of her and he encouraged her to lay back down. The screaming died away as Ruby gathered herself together.
The room was cool and refreshing, and very, very large. The ceiling was impossibly high and the walls were decorated with numerous paintings set with big windows that let in lots of light. Gentle music played quietly from a stereo in the corner, helping Ruby to relax.
She sank into her pillows and closed her eyes. Each breath was horrible, but it became bearable. Once she had that under control, she opened her eyes again, pleading with them for answers from Tyrese. He took a deep breath and looked at the floor. "I think I'll leave the explanations to the big guy,"
Ruby frowned, the NEST members often referred to Optimus as the big guy, although they could mean the president too, which, she supposed, could actually be quite likely.
He made to leave, but Ruby gripped his hand, "Tyrese," she croaked, "What happened to Megatron and his master? I had Megatron, but his master got to me, how did I end up here?"
Tyrese looked at her as if he was having an internal argument.
"I guess I could tell you that bit," he said, giving in, "Megatron got away, but he was in pretty bad shape thanks to you, and his master, who I assume is the Fallen, was successfully killed,"
Ah, so Ruby hadn't dreamed that bit. Had she dreamed about Optimus?
"Then we flew you back to this place." He finished with an assuring smile.
"Speaking of," said Ruby, her eyes scanning the room, "Where is this place?"
"Egypt still. This place was given to us temporarily by the Egyptian leader, whose name I really can not pronounce."
"Aw, come on, try to say it," teased Ruby, examining the needle he stuck in her arm; pain killers.
"No. Not a chance."
"Fine. Last question for now, why am I not in a hospital?"
Tyrese sniggered, flashing his white teeth, "I would have thought that one was obvious! Remember, you're like part transformer, metal alloys, super powers, and all that sort of thing. Plus, the autobots refused to let you out of their sight; I doubt a hospital would allow an assortment of trucks to stay parked next to your bed!"
Ruby felt a jolt of emotion in her tummy. Bless those autobots; all tough with weapons and guns, but still so caring.
"I don't see them now..."
"We've been taking shifts," explained Tyrese, "There is still a lot to be sorted out. But, when I press this button right here," he pointed to some kind of pager, "they'll all come running. Ready?"
"Do it."
