Russell rolled around in his bed a couple of times, as he slowly woke up. His eyes squinted, he stretched out his arms and took a deep breath. That's when he noticed it - the overwhelming smell of bacon. His mouth instantly watered. As he rolled out of bed he could hear chatting coming from the kitchen. He grinned when he heard his father's voice, followed by Stevie's giggles. "Well I could get used to this." He thought to himself, and shuffled his way to the washroom before making his way to the kitchen to see what was going on.
"Russell!" Russ Sr called to him as he walked up and took a seat on one of the bar chairs next to the island in the kitchen. "What's going on out here? It smells amazing." He said. "Stevie made breakfast... sorry I was going to wait for you to get up but it's too good." Russ Sr exclaimed as he dug into his french toast. "Seriously you have to try this, I'm on my fourth piece." He chuckled. "Uhm, that's your 5th and you should probably slow down after that." Stevie laughed. "I don't want to cause you to OD on carbs." The three chuckeld.
"I'm making you a plate." Stevie said as she turned to look at Russell over her shoulder. She was still situated in front of the skillet. Russell walked over to her and put his arms around her shoulders, hugging her from behind as he got a look at what she had in front of her.... She was placing the french toast slices on a plate that had bacon strips laid out. He watched as she placed the pieces, then put sliced banana on top, sprinkled on some walnuts, drizzled maple syrup then shook some cinnamon on top. "Jesus ..... " He gasped. "Where did you find all of this stuff? I never have food in the house." Russell asked. Stevie pointed her spatula at Russ Sr. "I had a runner help me out." She grinned. Russell took his plate and cut into his french toast, his father staring at him the entire time, anticipating his reaction. "Oh my god - Shut up." Russell exclaimed, closing his eyes after taking a bite. He quickly threw more into his mouth, shaking his head. "What did you -" He looked up at Stevie who smiled and Russ Sr quickly piped up, "She coated them with cream cheese first Russ! And then cinnamon and then the french toast mix, it's genius. I might have to go back to bed after this." He laughed. "This is the best french toast I've ever had. Like not even close." Russell said. Stevie blushed a little. "It was my Dad's favourite, he used to ask me to make this all the time." She sat down with her own plate to eat. "Well I can see why....Is it okay if I......?" Russell pointed to the remaining slices on the skillet and Stevie nodded "Of course, eat up." She smiled and he quickly refilled his plate.
Russell went to clean up his plate after finishing breakfast and Stevie stopped him. "You've got to get to practice soon, leave this with me." Stevie insisted. "But you," "Russell, I've got it... the only other things I have to do today are sleep and bathe." She joked. He nodded smiling at her. As she gathered plates and brought them to the sink, he snuck up behind her and kissed her cheek. "Thank you." He whispered.
Later that night Stevie curled up on the couch with Russ Sr to watch the game. The boys were back in town to play. "Are you eating more of that?" Stevie asked, chuckling as Russ Sr sat down beside her with another plate of the enchiladas that she had made for dinner. He lifted her feet, placing her legs across his, covering her toes with a blanket. "I'm only here for a week, so I'm going to enjoy this as much as possible." Russ Sr shrugged. "I left enough for Russie in there." The two smiled and turned up the volume on the TV, getting ready for the first pitch.
