Carl's P.O.V.
"This is Lucille. And she... is... awesome," Negan explained, shoving his wooden baseball bat in our faces. The fact that it was wrapped in barbed wire made it so much more intimidating.
We were on our way to the Hilltop, trying to get Maggie to the doctor, when the Saviors stopped us. They had us all lined up on our knees in front of this Negan fella. Glenn had already tried intervening, since he had tested him by pretending to pick Maggie. He didn't punish anyone the first time. He said the first one was free, but the next would be punishment.
I was the second to last on the right side of the line, my girlfriend (Y/N) being on the other side. I paid barely any attention to what Negan was saying, (Y/N) and I had eye contact the whole time. I was worried about her safety, I didn't want the girl I loved to face the wrath of a barbed baseball bat.
Negan finally caught my attention when he kneeled right in front of my face. I stared at him like I would kill him if he went an inch closer. "Lighten up, kid. At least cry a little," he taunted. I broke eye contact with him, looking back at (Y/N). His eyes followed my gaze, landing right on (Y/N). "Ohhhh... This is totally your girlfriend," he continued to taunt. He walked over to her, holding Lucille tight in his hands. She cried and trembled, refusing to look at his cold eyes. "Wow, kid. You're a mess! Maybe I should put you out of your misery already," he suggested, raising Lucille.
"No!" I screamed, crawling in her direction. Two Saviors behind me grabbed me by my arms and dragged me back. I squirmed and struggled, but they were stronger than me. They managed to place me back in my designated spot, shoving me back on my knees. I finally cracked, tears spilling over my cheeks. "Please, don't," I begged.
"No part of that was acceptable. That shit doesn't fly here. The first one was free, I get it. But I said I would shut that shit down, no exceptions! I don't know what lying assholes you've been dealing with, but I'm a man of my word," he explained in pure anger. He stood with his back facing (Y/N). Hopefully she would be ok and he would punish me instead of hurting her. But no, that would be too easy. I know these kinds of people and they know the best revenge is attacking the ones they love, instead of the person alone. "I want you to know me. So... Back to it," he turned around, Lucille in hand.
(*Graphic warning*)
I cringed as the bat made contact with (Y/N)'s skull. Every part of me wanted to scream, but I knew someone else would just get hurt. So for their sake and mine, I kept my mouth shut. I silently sobbed as the bat made contact once again, caving her skull in. She still stayed kneeling on the ground. She started mumbling and gurgling, trying to get some words out. "Damn, you still in there? I can't tell," he teased.
Blood ran down her face and her head was misshaped. I couldn't find a way to tear my eyes away from the horrific sight. "Carl!" she attempted to say. It came out as more of gurgles, since she was choking on her own blood. This just made me cry harder. Negan laughed and swung the bat across the side of her face, finally making her fall to the ground. I closed my eyes tightly before he took another swing. I continued to sob, cringing every time I heard the crack of the bat.
This was all my fault. My girl had gotten beaten to death because I couldn't follow Negan's dumb-ass directions. There's no way I'll be able to live with myself.
(A/N) Hey walkers! This one was a little more intense and graphic than usual. If you've seen episode 701 you'll find quite a bit of similarities within the story and the episode. Anyway, hope you enjoyed this update!
