I swear, I'm not that kind of girl... unless you get me really drunk, which in fact was the case. I don't remember how it happened, but all the guys were cheering me on. The next thing I know, Pete picks me up off the table by my legs, slings me over his shoulder, grabs my shirt and heads for the truck.
"Hey! Put. Me. Down. I was just having a little fun." I whine.
"And I'm keeping my promise!" he reminds me.
"Screw what I said. I want to dance, dance, dance!" I sing while pumping my fist.
I had made Pete promise me after seeing a girl embarrass herself while strip dancing on the table top last year that if I ever got so drunk that I did the same, he would immediately take me home. Thank goodness for Pete keeping his word.
He opens the back door and throws me in the seat.
"I'll be back. I've got to go find Forest. Don't puke in my truck." He says adamantly.
"Buuuuttt. I'm not ready to leeeaavvee." He slams the door and clicks the lock button locking me in. "HEY! Let me out. I'm calling the police for kidnapping."
The window must've been cracked just enough for him to hear me. "Trust me, you don't have to worry about anybody ever kidnapping you. If they did, it wouldn't last long. They'd get tired of you too quick." He hollers back to me before walking towards the house.
I lie down in the backseat for what seems like forever when the truck unlocks and both doors open up. "You still alive back there?" Pete asks looking back to make sure there isn't puke in his truck.
"Still kicking." I throw my leg up to prove it.
Ten minutes into the drive home everybody is quiet. I popup real quick leaning forward between the two front seats, "Hey you! I bet I could get you to talking..." I half whisper, teasingly. Forest jumps at the suddenness of my presence.
Pete puts an elbow in my face as to push me back where I belong, "Pear. Lay back down and leave the guy alone. You're drunk!"
"Am not!" I huff in denial and sit back in a very childish manner.
Pete's phone rings as soon as we hit the city limits of Mobile. "Dude. Seriously? I just got back into town." He pauses to listen to who I assume is Silas. "Fine, but Pearl is drunk and I have to get her to the apartment first. Yeah. Give me 40 minutes, and I'll be back to get you."
Pulling into campus I was in and out of consciousness mainly from the exhaustion taking over. Pete hands his apartment keys over to Forest. "She's gonna have to stay here. It's too late for us to be in her dorm, and there's no way she's making it up to her room alone." He pauses looking back at me, my eyes barely focusing on his face. He continues, "I have to run back out to the party and pick up Silas. Do you mind carrying her up?"
Nodding his head in agreement, Pete tells him to lay me in his bed, and he would take the couch for the night.
Forest jumps out of the truck and opens the door where my head lays. He secures his hands under my shoulders pulling me in an upright position before turning me around and cradling me.
His woodsy scent would've been intoxicating if I hadn't already hit that point. His arms feel warm and steady under my body. I lay my head on his shoulder and nuzzle my face into his neck. I feel safe and secure when we make our trek up the three flights of stairs. His strength doesn't give way when he reaches into his pocket for the keys to unlock the door.
