Chapter 4

>Josh<

Josh was in awe after Kennedy left his room. She'd shared the death of her water with him, but he couldn't tell her his secret.

It's not my fault, Josh thought, I just met her today. She chose to tell me that. I don't have to tell her just because she told me. Josh told himself. I wonder what this surprise is all about..

Before Kennedy left his room, she smiled widely at him.

"You know, if you really do love the water, we have a great surprise today when my mum gets home." she had said. Josh raised an eyebrow.

"Oh?" Well, I'm looking forward to it." he smiled genuinely at her. She gave him a smile back, hesitating a bit. She began to get up to leave before Josh caught her by the wrist.

"Wait," he said, "what did I do?"

Kennedy shook her head. "You didn't do anything.. It's... Okay, it's Ben." Josh rolled his eyes.

"You're not on about big bad Ben again, are you?"

Kennedy scowled. "What if I am? He might get a little jealous when he sees his girlfriend hanging out with a super hot guy that isn't him!"

Josh grinned. "So I'm hot again."

"I thought we were over this."

"Okay, okay. Yeah, I get it that he'll be jealous. Who wouldn't be jealous of these pools of mystery?" he pointed to his eyes.

"Josh." Kennedy warned.

"Sorry, sorry... but why don't you make something up? Tell him I'm your cousin or something."

Kennedy thought for a moment. "That could work.. Well, I have to call him now. He's coming with us for our little 'surprise.'" Kennedy strutted out of the room.

Josh waited for two seconds after Kennedy left, then he followed her to the attic.

Why is she going to the attic? Josh asked himself. He stalked in silence as he watched Kennedy open the latch to the attic, letting the ladder fall to the ground. Josh followed her up, into what appeared to be a girls bedroom. Josh mentally slapped himself as it dawned on him.

Duh, it's her bedroom! Didn't her sister say something about an entrance to her bedroom through my closet?

Josh snapped out of his thoughts as Kennedy picked up a cell phone off of the night stand. Josh ducked down the ladder a little further.

"Hey, Ben?" Kennedy said into the phone, pacing around the room. A muffled reply came from the phone. Josh got closer, hiding right behind where Kennedy was talking. He could hear a voice forming on the other line.

"Well, I was wondering if you could come with me tonight. We're showing our guests the beach." Kennedy spoke.

Josh leaned in closer to hear Ben's words.

"The Aussies, right?" Josh heard, "hey, I need to ask you something about them." Josh knitted his brows.

"Uh, okay? Shoot." Kennedy said, seeming puzzled. Josh moved closer. He could hear almost every word clearly, and the words he couldn't hear he guessed on.

"Well, Taylor called me and told me he saw this 'super hot guy' walk into your house. There's nothing going on between you two, right?"

Josh almost laughed. Something going in between them? Far from it. Every time he hit on her she rejected him. Still, he hoped that Kennedy would tell him yes.
