Chapter 9 : What A Huge Group

Mia's POV

"It's clear." I wave them over and Jesse was first to go.

"The house is just up ahead. Carol, you lead."I toss her a pistol. l was holding onto Christopher who was busy playing with a bunch of wild flowers.

Good to know none of this is affecting him...

at all.

l shrug as Jesse fell back to my side whilst his dad and brother followed Carol. "How you holding up with... Chris?" He asks me while scanning the area.

We could've reached Jade's place within 5 minutes if we'd walked normally.

But... Better safe than sorry.

"I'm fine. You should go on ahead since I know this area and you don't." I gestured to Carol who's back was facing me.

He scoffed,"Hey, we may not be from the same side of the neighborhood but I'm sure I know this place as well as you do. Maybe better. Seeing as I'm 2 years older than you and a dude."

"What do you mean by 'a dude'? Are you seriously a sexist?"

He shrugs and let's a smirk find its way into his lips, "Maybe, sometimes."

I let out a small sigh as I rolled my eyes and we made our way to Jade's place. How am I gonna explain these survivors?

I shrug off the weird feeling of being watched as I turned the corner and we made our way down to Jade's house.

Seeing as there weren't any dead making an appearance, we ended up just walking to the place- Whoa wait, is that Mr Glervin? What is he doing just standing there?!

"Hey Mister!" Jesse yelled across the street clearly having the same thoughts as I was,"What are ya doing out in the open with with no weapons?! Care to join our little- Whoa!!"

Suddenly Mr Glervin - or the walking remains of his - released a loud, menacing growl as he turned his dead head to look in our direction.

Slowly, he turned. His growls became louder.

I shrieked in shock as the man I once knew as Mr Glervin began speed walking - or speed shuffling- toward us.

Seconds later you could see a posse of Zombies, probably 2 times bigger than us, shuffling toward us.

I easily picked up Chris and ran behind Jesse who yelled,"Go!"

Jesse let his finger rest on the trigger as he aimed whilst running sideways toward the fortified house with me and chris behind his back.

Just as Jesse released the first bullet into Glervin's forehead, causing him to slump to the ground, Carol desperately knocked hard on Jade's door,"Come on... Jade!" I could make out Carol cry in anxiety.

As the posse of zombies inched closer and closer, Jesse released more rounds of ammunition into the brains of the walking dead, causing nearly half of them to slump dead -literal dead- to the ground.

"Nice aim-" As I was about to praise him I noticed Jade's house door was about to close. "Shit!" I heard Jesse curse just as the empty magazine of the pistol dropped out.

He stumbled whilst picking it up but quickly returned to pace.

"Stop!!" I yelled just as the door was about to click shut. With all my might I flung open the door with Jesse in tow.

Jade's POV

*Bang!*

*Knock knock knock!*

Just seconds after the gunshot was heard, someone was desperately knocking on my house door. I looked through the peephole before gasping and pressing the blue button next to the door.

The minute my hand pushed the button, all the locks on the door were unlocked and I threw open the door letting in Carol, a grown man and a teenage boy just about my age.

More bullets rang out.

"Stop!!" A familiar scream erupted just as I was going to shut the door in fear of the dead entering my home.

3 more people entered my home.

Mia, Christopher and another teenage guy.

Mia immediately kicked the door shut before putting Christopher down to lock every single lock on the door she could with speed I'd never seen before.

After a few mere seconds, we could hear the groans of the dead outside the door. A few of them banged on the door causing a few of us to stiffen but the door stood it's ground.

After we retired to the living room, I heard Ryder release a low whistle, "Who do we have here?"

"Charlotte? Alika?? ... Ryder? Jade??" Mia cried out in disbelief as she hugged me. "I can't believe your all here!"

After exchanging pleasantries, we all sat around the living room,"Care to introduce your new friends?" Jade smiles at me after we had settled down and caught our breaths.

"I'm Henry and these are my sons, Dan-" He gestured to the one who looked about the same age as me,"-And Jesse." His hand glided to the other boy.

Ryder let out another low whistle,"Looks like our group has grown."
