A few weeks later Emily walked to school and sat in class next to Chester.
"Hey, Chess." She said.
"Hey, Em." Chester said back but didn't turn his head to her, he also leaned his head on his hand the entire time to cover his left eye. When they walked out of class Emily did notice something on his eye.
"What's with your eye?" She asked him after a while.
"It's nothing, Em."
"It is, Chess." Emily said and turned his head and she saw the black eye he had, it had even swollen a bit.
"Oh my gosh, Chess, this isn't nothing. What happened?"
"Nothing, Em, I'm fine. just... an accident during practice" He said and emily accidentally touched it very lightly and Chester let out a little pained sound.
"This doesn't happen during practice. Chester, you can trust me, please tell me."
"Fine, but not here... I have a free hour now."
"Me too, let's sit somewhere private."
They walked to the football field and sat down somewhere, since there was no one at the field now anyways.
"What happened?" Emily asked.
"Well... yesterday, when I came home, I found my mother in the couch, drunk as fuck. I thought she had passed out already and I took the bottles of wine and other alcohol from her and I threw everything away, But she was still awake and she saw me do it, she yelled at me and told me to buy her more alcohol. I told her I wouldn't, that she was drunk... I said she was a terrible mother and..." Chester took a shaky breath. Emily rubbed his arm. "I said I hated her, that she was a filthy bitch and had to start acting a like a mother before I would throw her out of the house myself.... She grabbed an empty bottle from the table and hit me with it." Chester said. Emily hugged him from the side.
"You should see a doctor, what if she broke your skull?"
"Then I deserved it.... I shouldn't have said the things I said, I should've.... I don't know."
"Chess, I understand why you said it, trust me, I have issues with my mother and I called her all kinds of names, sometimes I regret it but she is your mother, she should act like one and be there to pick you up when you feel down, not to help you dig the hole even deeper."
"That's different... Your mother abandoned you and your father, mine didn't.."
"That doesn't mean she can't be a bad mother. mine wasn't there, but that also meant that I never had a fight with her and that she couldn't screw up more. Yours was there, but right now she screwed up as a mother."
"She did indeed."
"Does your father know?"
"No, he is in London for his work the entire week. he comes home tomorrow night."
"If you want to you can stay with me for a few days."
"I don't know... someone should take care of her, what if something happens?"
"A child should not take care of his parents, I think you could use a break."
Chester smiled a little. "You're right, if I can stay that'd be amazing."
Emily smiled back. "I'll make sure you can." she said. "I'll call my dad during the next break and tell him you are coming."
"Thanks."
"No problem. Should I come with you after school to pick up some of your stuff?"
"If you want to, sure."
"Then I will." Emily said and smiled at him.
"Thanks." Chester said again and pulled her closer against him. they hugged for a while until they heard the school bell ring, signaling lunchbreak began.
"I'm going to call my dad real quick, okay?"
"Okay, I need to put some books in my locker, I'll meet you there okay?"
"Okay." Emily said and they stood up. Emily grabbed her phone and called Andy.
"Hey, Emily" He said when he picked up.
"Hey dad, how are you?"
"Good, why are you calling?"
"Ehm... Chester has some trouble at hime, is it okay if he stays with us for a few days?"
"Chester, your boyfriend Chester?"
"Do you know any more Chester's?"
"A guy at work, but you don't know him, why does he has to stay with us?"
"Trouble at home, his mother hit him while she was drunk and his father is in London."
It was silent for a couple of seconds, Andy then sighed. "Fine, he can stay, but he is not sleeping in your room."
"Why not? Mikael stays in your room too, and I hear you two some times."
"That's the reason I don't want him in your room."
Emily sighed. "You are so mean. But this also means you don't have to pick me up, Chester needs to pick some stuff up anyways, so I'll just go with him."
"Okay, I'll see the two of you tonight."
"Yes, bye, and thanks dad, You're the best."
"I know." Andy said before he hung up. Emily walked to the school building and went to the lockers to meet Chester there. He was talking to one of his friends for the football team and they said their goodbyes.
"Hey, he was okay with it." Emily said and Chester smiled.
"Great."
"But, he doesn't want you to sleep in my room."
"I already expected that, I guess parents never want that."
"I guess so too."After school they got into Chester's car and drove to his place. They parked and got out.
"I hope my mother is out, if not... stay close because I don't know what she might do." Chester said when they walked to the front door. Emily nodded and they walked in. they walked up stairs and into Chester's room, the only room in the house where you were able to see the floor right now.
"I'm sorry about the mess everywhere." Chester said when they walked back downstairs and had to step over all kind of mess. "I just need one last thing from the garage."
"It's okay, I kinda know your situation so I kinda understand."
they walked through the living room and saw Chester's mother on the couch, eyes closed and still a bottle in her hand. they quickly and quietly went to the garage and Chester grabbed a sleeping bag.
"You don't need to bring that, we have a guest room you can sleep in."
"Oh, okay." Chester said and they walked back. Chester's mom woke up.
"Chester, is that you?" she asked, slowly opening her eyes.
"Shit." Chester muttered and gave one of his bags to Emily.
"Please go outside and wait there for me." He said and Emily nodded, took the bag and walked to the front door.
"What is it, mom?" Chester asked.
"Did you go to the shop?"
"No, I didn't, I'm not going to get you more booze, mom."
"Chester, go and get some, you can buy some candy for yourself."
"No, mom. You have to stop drinking!" Chester said and his mother threw a bottle at him.
"Not so loud, I have a headache. And go, now!"
"No, I'll be gone for the weekend, and you can explain to dad why. I won't come back until you've changed." Chester said and walked to the front door.
"Chester Daniel Asshley! Come back here this instant!"
"NO!" Chester said, walked out and slammed the door. Emily looked at him, unsure if she sould say something or not.
"Sorry I kept you waiting." Chester said and they put his bags in the back of the car. they went to Emily's place and walked in after taking Chester's bag out of the car. They brought the bags upstairs and sat on the couch with a drink. They watched tv and snuggled a bit until Andy came in.
"Evening." Andy said and smiled at them.
"Hey, dad."
"Evening, Mr Danton."
"It's Andy, Chester."
"Right, I'm just used to it."
"You should be, that means you parents did a good job raising you." Andy said and opened the fridge to grab some stuff for dinner.
"I guess."
Andy started to make dinner and they soon ate together. Chester was a bit awkward at first but soon loosened up and talked with Andy a lot.
"So, Emily told you had a bit of trouble at home, I know it's not my business, but if you ever need to talk or need a place to stay, give us a call." Andy said with a smile.
"Thank you, though I hope that's not needed."
"I understand."
It was silent for a while.
"Well, of course it's nice that you stay here." Any said. "But I do have a few rules."
"Of course, fire away."
"1: You two do not share a room. 2: If you two go out tonight or tomorrow, Neither of you is going to come into this house drunk. 3: If you two are home late, please be quiet, I do try to sleep. And 4: I'd appreciate it if you both help out a little with the dishes and such."
"Understood." Chester and Emily said.
"Good." Andy said, they had dessert and Emily and Chester did the dishes.
"Do you wanna go out tonight?" Chester asked her.
"If you want to, but it's nice to stay here too. I'm not really in the mood for loud music."
"Well, I was actually thinking about a movie, there are some cool films in the cinema now."
"Oh, ehm.... sure, sounds good." Emily said and they went after they finished the dishes. They had fun at the cinema and they went back after that. The lights were already off so they walked in quietly and went to bed. Chester checked his phone one last time and saw he got one new message. He opened and read it.
'Will this cost me extra?'
Chester sighed and put his phone down a bit frustrated. The next day Andy left around noon. He said he was going to meet up with Mikael and that he would stay there for the night too.
"So, what do you want to do today?" Chester asked when they were alone.
"I don't care, you can choose."
Chester sighed and smiled at her. "Okay.... how about we just stay home for now, and tonight we get dinner and go bowling?"
"Sounds like a plan."
They had breakfast and did the dishes, they then sat on the couch and watched tv. Then the bell rang and Emily went to open it.
"Hello, Emily." a woman said and smiled at her.
"What are you doing here?"
"Don't you want to see me?"
"NO! Leave!"
Chester walked to the door. "Who is it?" He asked.
"Hi, I'm Amanda. I'm Emily's mother."
