((Guys, i really apologize for that last chapter, it really had nothing to do with the story, i was just procrastinating for reasons unexplainable in <20 words))
Chapter 1: An accidental plan and a new competition.
Dave stood against the wall in Kanaya's hive. She was throwing a house party for who knows why. It wasn't exactly celebratory. It was basically a party where she invites a few friends, who invite friends, who invite friends. She didn't care though. She was enjoying feeling popular among humans and trolls, even though she wasn't the soul reason that they were all there. No, she had drinks, music, and a place to cut loose.
A place to flip your shit and forget your troubles. Not that this particular hive was anything special. It wasn't a designated therapy party mat. It was just a hive. Just a home to a Troll who had access to alcohol, black lights, and crips and clear speakers. She somehow managed to convince Sollux to DJ. All Dave knew, or, overheard was something about her allowing him to personally amplify and adjust them to his own liking. This inevitably included getting the left side of the DJ stand and the left speakers' rims to glow blue, and the right's red.
No one really seemed to mind about Mr.Captor's adjustments. All they cared about was having good music, which meant a having a good time. She fucked up in a good way by letting Gamzee supply a lot of the drinks. Rose on the other hand was stupid enough to listen when he asked her to bring some of her mother's liquor supply. Dave wouldn't let her live this one down. No. She was his twin sister, that left him to torment her.
He usually stuck with subtle paybacks and tricks. Like using their occasional weird twin telepathy to finish her sentences, or answer the teacher's question with an answer only she knew. Sometimes he stooped as lowly hilarious as just getting John to (reluctantly) help him set up a bucket of water above her door.
As much as John hated helping Dave in the twin's sibling rivalry war, he would also stick with him through thick and thin and help a bestbro out. The blonde was almost certain that he could ask John to steal some Faygo from Gamzee and he would. Or maybe tell him to wrap tinsel around Tavros's horns or something outrageous, but John would always be there on his side. His partner in crime.
And secretly, the love of his life.
But what was he talking about, he would certainly never have feelings for John, his bestbro, a guy. Ir at least if he did, he would CERTAINLY, never admit it. Never ever. Nope. He refused. It wasn't real. If it was even remotely close to anything, it would be a tiny little spec of a highschool crush.
Like, so tiny, it would be smaller than a pixie's fart cloud. And he was pretty damn sure pixies didn't fart. But, if they did, it would leave little microscopic fart clouds. So what ever kind of spec of a shard of a pixie fart cloud romantic feelings he had for John Egbert, they would never be purposely and intentionally or consensually admitted by him.
Besides, Egderp was exactly that, a derp. He was a nerd. A geek. A loser. And Dave Strider, THE Dave Strider, was the coolest guy around. So why would a cool, awesome guy like him even be expected to or assumed to have feelings for some scrawny (although he shouldn't be talking) little nerd. Exactly, there is no reason.
But all of this didn't matter. Not until this night at least. Not until Dave saw John and Karkat stumble upstairs in a drunken stooper giggling and whispering dirty things in each other words. This, this was too much. This infuriated Dave. He was filled and then some with rage and... jealousy?
Fuck. If anyone was supposed to be up there, fucking and making out with John, it should be him dammit!
Well, not in a romantic way, but like, because he's his best friend, not that grey skin Vantas.
It sickened him to see Karkat with John. So much. He totally would have flipped his shit and lost his cool, done something. Something irrational, something violent, if he wasn't so dumbfounded. He was just standing there, staring at the stairs.
A lot of his blurry vision, queasiness, and pounding head was from the fourth drink in hand, but the rest was from his rage and (not that he would (as pre-mentioned) admit it) jealousy.
He swayed a bit as his vision was becoming more and more fuzzy. His head swirled, his heart pounded in his ears, his stomach churned until-
"Ewwwww. Daveee, that's not how you treat plants..." Jade said even though she was rubbing his back comfortingly as he barfed into the fern in the living room.
"Come on, let's get you some water and fresh air." Rose said half unamused and half caringly as she helped Dave onto one of the balconies as Jade fetched a glass of water.
"Nngh." Dave grunted, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand and settling down carefully on a chair. Rose stood next to him. "Okay, you're thoughts were really distressed and jumbled, but from what I heard and understood, you're mad at Karkat for what's he's doing now with John aren't you?" Rose began in her psychological, rhetorical, sarcastic, interrogational way, as per usual.
"Nnnn... Get out of my head...." He groaned in response, leaning forward and resting his head in his hands. She placed a gentle hand on his shoulder. "Look. There's nothing to can do now to stop or prevent this at the moment. But, on the other hand, maybe once you've gone home. Sobered up. And calmed down, you can get to work on how to win him over." She suggested openly.
"I told you, Im not g-"
"Oh stop, you will never be happy if you continue to deny this fact; You're. In love..." She trailed off, giving it a second.
"Don't finish that sen-"
"With. John. Egbert." She ignored his demands and protests. He was about to continue but gave up, he was feeling too sick with anger, sadness, confusion and defeat (and of course alcohol) to bother right now. Jade came onto the balcony and gave him the glass of water. He thanked her and then waved them away.
He sat out there for a little while, sipping from the glass of water. Jade came out a few times, just to poke her head out the door to see he was still okay. He stayed there for a good 30 mins before calling it quits and using the telepad to go home.
Dirk gave him an odd look at the early return home. Well, it certainly wasn't early, it was 11:45 pm. But he hadn't expected him home till AT LEAST after 1:00. He shrugged it off, giving Dave a slight nod and returning to his room. Dave trudged up the stairs, grateful his bro hadn't questioned his early return. He really wasn't in any mood to explain it to him, not that he would be straight about it anyways but still.
He kicked off his shoes. He wanted to just flop onto the bed, but that would damage his shades and he didm't fancy sleeping in his day clothes. He slid out of everything except for his boxers. He set his shades down on his night stand, rubbing his crimson irised eyes and crawling under the blankets. Part of him wanted to just stay there and never come out, another wanted to curl up and die. A small part of him let a few tears fall, but it was silenced by the part of him wanting to stay cool and stay strong. This part was the same part bullying him and calling him a fag and a wimp. Finally, everything else was settled by the last part in him, in his conscious and subconscious. It calmed him down and let him think straight. It determined him to do what Rose suggested, to win John over.
The tiniest of smiles crept onto his face. That was it. He was going to win over John Egbert.
That, that was the last thing to go through his mind before he fell asleep.
