Chapter 5: In which Kanaya stitches a cape
"I don't knoww Kan... Don't you think this is a little too... howw do I put it? Ower the top?" The sea dweller asked as he examined the new scarf. "I'm not lookin' to did you or anyfin but I think my scarf looks dashing enough as is. And I have a princely aura to uphold, so I really don't think this would be complimentary." he added, holding up the garment. it was similar to his first scarf, only the material was silkier and the colors were different. Instead of two shades of blue, it was a Jade green and a burgundy. "It looks nice, Kan, don't get me wwrong... I'm just not quite sure howw wwell it matches." Eridan folded the scarf again and set it back down on the table, looking to the Virgo.
At the moment, he was in her hive for a repair. A cape repair, actually. "Yes, yes, that's fine and I understand that, Eridan, but have you ever considered... A change in wardrobe?" She raised a brow, looking up from the fabrics she was selecting from. "While I think that your usual 'sea king' garb is, dashing if anything, I fail to see how you can claim such fashion knowledge when all your clothes look the same. Now, I am not judging you, but all I am suggesting is that you mix it up a little. Maybe a tiny bit less flashy and a little more, oh, what's the word? Spicy? I believe that could be an accurate enough description of what I had in mind." she replied.
"Spicy? How are clothes spicy? Kan, I think you might wwanna reconsider your adjectiwe choice there." Eridan questioned, very confused.
She let out a soft sigh and gestured to anther wall of the room. "Something with more taste to it. Less regal, more urban." Kanaya summed up, looking back to the violet fabrics in front of her once she caught the nod from him. "Now, tell me again how this happened?" She asked, holding up his cape and looking at him through the large hole.
"Oh it's simple really. But to sawe me the embarrassment, howw about wwe say that usin' a science wwand in front a Meenah can lead to a bet... and possibly her shootin' at me wwith it." he fumbled over his words a little and a slight flush came across his face from anger over the situation still. "Ya knoww, it's a reel pain in the nook; dyin' and wwaitin to come back." he added in a huff, bringing his hand up to check his claws.
"Oh." The Maryam murmured, eyeing the torn bits of fabric. "So that's where you were the last few days?" She asked, finally picking a suitable fabric to mend the cape with and moving to her seeing table.
"Yeah."
"So you weren't present for what happened today at lunch?"
"Oh gog no, I don't trust the caff food. I wwouldn't ewen feed that stuff to a lusus. And I hate the crowwd in there. I usually eat my lunch outside in the yard. Why? What happened?" He looked over at her, moving to sit across from her.
"Well there was a bit of a predicament involving Dave and Karkat. They got into a fight. I was only there to witness what was already physical. I am not sure what caused it." She explained briefly.
The Aquarius raised a brow. "Did you ask anyone that wwas there for the whole thing?"
"Yes, I did. I asked Rose. She was sitting with Dave and Karkat when it happened."
"Wwell, are ya gonna tell me or not? Don't leave me hangin' , Kan."
"She said that supposedly, Karkat and John have entered what seems to be an unofficial matespritship. However, Dave harbours flushed feelings for John, or at least that's what Rose assumes as of right now. So Dave then commented on Karkat an John's relationship. This caused Karkat to go too far and he got a little bit too aggressive about it all." She sighed and shook her head. "They got into a brawl and Dave ended up absconding. Now, people are assuming it was a caliginous act of sorts, but neither Dave nor Karkat have claimed to have black feelings for the other, so it's all but a guess as of now. There are other rumours too." She concluded.
Eridan propped his arms up on the table as Kanaya sewed and spoke, watching her with peaking interested. "What are people saying?"
"Some say John has self destructive tendencies, but I can tell you right now that I would have smelled his blood more strongly if he did, so I doubt that. Others think that Karkat and John never pailed and that they are just pretending for some reason? And a few think that Sollux has red feelings for Karkat, but as far as I know, he hasn't been involved at all so I am not quite sure where people are coming up with those ideas."
"It could be Nep."
"Pardon?"
"No I mean, she could hawe stated that she supposedly 'shipped' Kar and Sol. Because that information could easily be lost through speech if people mess up and say that she claimed to knoww Sol had those feelings. Knoww wwhat I mean?"
"Yes I guess that could be true. And is actually very probable. I'm sure more information will rise soon, though. It happened today and seeing as everyone knows who Dave and Karkat are, word will probably travel faster, and with more people involved, there is a chance that someone will know more about the whole situation than others." She agreed, finishing up with the sewing.
"There." She said. "As good as new." She smiled, holding up the cape. "Virtually seemless." She added.
Thanking her, the Ampora stood and clasped the cape over his shoulders again. "Talkin' wwith you Kan is nice." He smiled, a rare occurrence. "And uh, thanks again, I guess... For forgiwin' me for wwhat happened... S'nice to hawe a friend again." He admitted, contemplating a hug before deciding to just leave.
