<> Skylar's P.O.V <>
I hear a motorbike drive past the house and I run to the window, peaking out and seeing the postman put the mail into the mail box then drive away. Better go out and get that otherwise I'll forget. I glance down at what I'm wearing to check if it's presentable. I am sporting my little superman pyjama shorts and a white singlet. I guess I'll be alright, I mean I'll be back inside in a matter of seconds.
My footsteps are the only sound in the house as I run down the stairs as everyone is out. Mum is at work, Lucie's with Evan and Bradley is over the other side of the world. Right.
I open the front door and walk straight down the long pathway to the letter box. As I open the letter box it makes a horrid screeching sound from the rust. I cringe a little before taking out the mail. You know it's that sort of noise like running your nails down a blackboard?
I quickly look through the letters, two of them being addressed to me and the others being bills and letters from insurance.
"Oh hi Skylar!" I hear my name being called out and my eyes widen and I look up. I spot an elderly lady waving at me with a big smile on her face. Oh I remember Mrs Hershel! She's this adorable lady that has lived in the house next door for about 50 years. She's so sweet, I actually remember her bringing Carter, Lucie and I cookies and brownies every now and then.
I also remember that she would take a lot of time caring for her many flowers in her front yard, like right now she is giving them a hose. "Hi Mrs Hershel! How are you going?" I smile, putting my arms down to cover my pyjamas a bit.
"Oh I'm doing fantastic but enough about me." She waves her hand, turning off the hose and walking to the fence that separates our houses. I walk toward the fence as well, keeping the smile on my face no matter how awkward I feel. "So my granddaughter told me that she went to a concert and you performed there! This was a few years ago if I do recall but is this true?" She places one of her shaky hands on her hips and I chuckle.
"Yes it is actually. I opened for a band."
"Oh! Isn't that amazing! I always knew that you were going to be famous! I would constantly hear you singing in your bedroom – not that it was a bad thing, your voice is absolutely beautiful!" She gushes and I chuckle.
"Awh thankyou Mrs Hershel. Well I've got to get inside and sort out this mail." I awkwardly chuckle, holding up the mail for her to see.
"Well it was good to chat to you sweetheart. I've got to get on with watering my roses now. Ta ta!" She says and I smile, turning around and trying so hard not to burst into laughter.
I run back into the house then let out a big breathe of relief. I really should've gotten changed. But I don't think she noticed the pyjamas.
I chuck all the letters that are addressed to my Mum and sister onto the kitchen bench then walk upstairs with my two letters. When I get to my room and run and jump onto my bed. I rip open the first envelope and take the letter out, scanning over it. Ugh boring. It's just some letter from the car dealership, confirming a service for my car.
I chuck that to the side, grabbing the next letter and scanning the envelope. There is a stamp that has a little picture of big ben on it. I then glance down to see my name and address. My breath stops a little when I see the handwriting. I know that handwriting. I then eagerly rip open the envelope, taking out the letter that's inside.
As I unfold the letter I become very anxious. What is it going to say? Will I be happy or upset by what it says? You know what? I don't care. I'm just gonna open it and read it. I don't need to care about what it says anyway. Well actually I sort of do.
As I read through it my nerves begin to settle as I read it in his voice. Have you ever done that? For example you get a text from someone and then you read it in their voice.
Once I'm done reading my eyes are watering and I let in a little sniffle. I drop it onto the bed and shake my head. I look around my room aimlessly. I haven't done anything to it since I moved out when I was 18.
The walls are still a light blue and there are some pictures of me with my group in high school on the walls. All my textbooks are still lined up perfectly on my desk along with my binders and pens. Of course the glowing stars are still stuck to my roof, though they don't really glow much anymore. All my growth markings are still drawn onto the door frame. Even my duvet cover is still light pink and white stripes.
I've changed so much in the past 5 years. I would do my room completely differently now. I'd have my walls white with one grey wall. I'd put up recent pictures of me. I'd take off all the stars on the roof. I'd keep the growth markings. I would change my duvet cover to something black and white.
It's sort of weird knowing how different I am now. I never used to worry about a thing and now I'm just constantly thinking and worrying about what's to come. But I'm happier. Well I feel sort of shitty now but in general I am. My Dad hasn't just died and my boyfriend isn't cheating on me.
Well I don't really have a boyfriend anymore.
I grab my phone from my nightstand and flick through it, trying to find a certain number. I press dial and place the phone to my ear, waiting for them to answer.
"Helloooooo." They coo and I chuckle.
"Hey Alyssa is everyone with you?" I ask her and I hear her fumbling around before she answers.
"Everyone is with me now. You're on speaker." She tells me and I hear her put the phone down. Everyone shouts hello before I can get a word in and I smile.
"Hey guys... Alright so you know how you guys said that you were staying here for as long as I need you to stay her so you can help me and stuff?" I begin and I hear a chorus of yesses.
"Well... Okay how do I say this?" I pause, thinking of how I should tell them.
"Do you want us to leave?" I hear Con ask and shake my head then realise that that can't see me.
"No of course not. I still want you guys to be with me that's this whole thing. I want you to be with me when I go back to England." I let out and they are all silent for a few seconds.
"YES OH MY GOSH!" I hear Tristan yell and they all join in celebrating with him. I laugh on my side of the phone as their shouts continue.
"Wait how soon do you want to go back?" Ella asks and I don't waste my time in answering.
"Like in the next few days?" I say and they begin celebrating again. "Hey!" I shout to get their attention and they stop, "I've got to go and tell my Mum and Lucie then start packing. Guys can you organise the flights if that's alright?"
"Yep that's all good. I just texted Joe and Ellen anyway." James says and I laugh. We all say our goodbyes before I end the phone call and let out a little squeal of excitement. I can't believe that this is actually happening.
I jump off my bed, taking my phone with me. I reach for the door, opening it up to have Lucie fall into me. I stand there shocked and she looks up at me guiltily.
"Were you listening to that whole conversation?" I ask and she swings back and forth on her feet.
"Maybe? But Sky are you really gonna move back to England?" She walks into the room, sitting herself down on my bed and crossing her legs.
"Yes. I'm sorry you had to find out like that..." I begin but I am interrupted.
"Sky I couldn't care less about how I found out! This is so great! Not that I want you to leave because you're my sister and I love you and I love having you here. But I'm so happy for you because not only that's where all your friends permanently live but it's also where Bradley lives." She says very quickly and I stare at her with wide eyes.
"You know that you're the best sister ever?" I open my arms up with a smile and she jumps up, joining me in a tight hug.
"Of course I know that." She scoffs and I burst into laughter with her joining me.
