~~~Max~~~
Johnny woke up later and asked why I was there so early. Kat, who was checking his stats, explained that I'd been there all night, holding his hand. She made it sound like a normal thing that happens all the time but he still swooned, "That's pretty cute."
I blushed. "I-I'm just worried for you... Ghost is, too."
"Come here." I stepped over and he spoke again, "Lean down." I did and he kissed my cheek, whispering to me, "Remember your drawl, Deer. You haven't used it since this happened. I want to hear it."
I blushed again when I heard Kat chuckle, "I'll leave you two be. You're doing pretty good for such a weird case, Toast. Count your blessings."
"We always do, Ma'am. Thank you."
Kat smiled and started to leave but I stopped her, "Wait! Kat? Could ya bring me a notepad or somethin'?"
She gave me a look but nodded. "I'll get one from the front desk."
When she walked off, Johnny looked up at me from his bed, "Um..."
"Ah'll explain later."
"Heh. Okay, then. Where's Ghost?"
"Right here, Toast." Our boss walked in and tossed me a muffin, which I just barely caught. "How you feeling?"
"Kat said I was doing well considering they didn't find a bullet."
"Wow. Sassy remarks already? You really are doing well!"
"I got you a notepad, Max," Kat reentered and handed me the pad. "Now you mind explaining why you need it?"
"Simple," I took the paper and clicked open the pen. "Ah'm turning vigilantly."
"Come again?"
I began to jot things down. "Um, Ghost, can Ah ask ya ta go home an' get ma laptop?"
He, Johnny and Kat all glanced at each other. "Sure?"
"Cool, thanks!" I said, still writing.
Ghost shook his head, most likely giving up on trying to understand.
