Chapter 4: The Triangle

When Cassidy woke up, her throat felt like sandpaper and her body burned. She struggled to sit up. When she touched the earth, she realized with faint joy that it was sand.

She looked down at her clothes, and saw herself in rags. Her hair was dried with sand and salt. She stood shakily, grabbing a piece of driftwood to use as a support.

"Well, I might as well look around and see if they survived. And look for some lines of life," she thought.

There was no sign of the boat on the barren beach. She thought she saw a trail leading away from the beach and followed it, using the driftwood as a cane.

What she came across made her gasp in wonder, for just steps away from the beach, was a huge castle. She hadn't even registered the noise that surrounded the beach. There was a marketplace, bustling with people making purchases from dinky little stalls. And there were homes where woman still put out the wash out on clotheslines.

Cassidy stumbled into town and made her way straight to the castle. She was very much away of the looks the people on the street gave her, but she didn't care. She just made her way straight to the castle.

"Hold it!" a guard said when she got there.

Cassidy looked up at him, at a loss for words. A movement on his left caught her attention, and she stared wide-eyed as she saw who it was.

She muttered one word before she passed out, "Rose,"

"Do you mean to tell me, that because of a simple navigation error, she escaped!?" Arswon yelled at the miserable looking guard. The guard nodded.

Arswon screamed, and the guard cowered.

"And you haven't found Mike yet either, have you?"

"No sir. Not even the boat,"

"Get out of my sight!"

The guard scampered away.

Gone. And every chance he had of winning this war gone with her. He may still have the Book, but without her here to use it, it was useless; wasted space. There was still a chance though that she wasn't in the Triangle. She and Mike both could be stuck on that island and without a boat, they'd be stranded.

"Vono! Markus!" Arswon called.

"Yes sir?"

"Get out there and find those two. Check every island in the area,"

"But sir, what if they're in the Triangle?"

"Then the attack begins,"

Cassidy woke with a headache to beat all headaches. She tried to sit up, but a firm hand pushed her down. For a second she panicked, afraid that she had somehow been found by Arswon. Then she remembered the face she'd seen just before she passed out.

Cassidy opened her eyes and saw her best friend sitting at the foot of her bed, just like old times.

"Rose?" her voice came out as a croak.

"Shush. Lie down and rest," Rose said sternly.

"Water, please," she croaked.

She was handed a cup. Rose tried to force it down her throat, but Cassidy stopped her, "I've got it," she said.

The water soothed her throat and made her feel stronger. She sat up before Rose could push her down again. She looked around. She was sitting on a bed in a beautiful room with flowers and elegant furniture. She looked down at her clothes. Cassidy was surprised to find that she was no longer wearing rags. Instead, she wore a plain blue dress.
