"Sign here, and you're free to go." The nurse handed Megan the pin which she took enthusiastically. This was it, her new life was beginning as soon as she signed her name on this paper. She was going to be free, after seven years of living in misery after that dreadful day. She was finally going to have her life back. To be able to step foot into the world as a new person, because she was not the same anymore and she refused to let her dark past control her life.
Her bag slung over her shoulder, she took in the walls surrounding her one last time. She was never stepping foot in this place again. And she cant say she's going to miss it either. This had been her prison for seven years, her sentence was finally over and she was a free women to do as she pleased.
"Make sure you schedule your appointment with your therapist as soon as you get home. I will be calling to check up on you."Agatha was the only nurse that actually gave a damn about Megan. She was genuinely a nice, caring person and they had spent most of Megan's seven years working together on her treatment.
"I'm going to miss you Aggie." Before the tears could fall she pulled her friend into a hug. Promising to take care of herself and keep in touch.
Turning towards the door, Megan let out a tentative breath as she pushed the glass door out. Letting the cool air wrap around her body as she sniffed the air, smelling the freedom. She nervously hauled a cab remembering the breathing exercises her therapist taught her to do when she felt anxious or afraid. Although her mother left most of her fortune to Megan, it just didn't feel right for her to just sit around on her ass for the rest of her life and do nothing. She wanted to make a name for herself. She wanted to earn her own wealth, her own name.
So lost in her thoughts, she was startled when the cab came to a sudden stop and familiar surroundings caught her eye. She was back home, for the first time since her mother died. Nothing had changed in the last seven years, in fact everything was exactly how she left it. Warm tears brimmed in her eye lids as she stepped foot on the property that gave her so many mixed emotions, this place gave her both good and bad memories. On one hand, demi, Wilmer and Megan lived a happy life there for the first years of their marriage. And on the other hand this was the same place her family fell apart. Where she was maliciously ripped away from her life.
There wasn't a day that went by that she didn't think about it, about how life would have been If her mother would've just stayed home that dreadful day. Or if she would've never been the naive child that wanted to help everyone , that let that psycho bitch into her house in the first place. As she eased through the door she was instantly hit with the memory of dianna first revealing the news of her mother's death.
*Seven years prior*
Megan sat on her bed, bopping her head to the new tune that she just discovered as she waited for her grandma to come back home so she could take her to see demi. She had so much to tell her, she couldn't wait to be able to move back into their old house and live together as a family again. Despite hearing about Wilmer, Megan had become so accustomed to tragedy she didn't even cry. She just felt numb.
Mintues turned into hours, and there was still no sign of dianna. Megan anxiously paced around her bedroom venturing out into the hall occasionally. She dialed her grandma's number several times only to be greeted by her voice mail. Dallas wasnt answering her phone either. Which was odd. Her stomach turned horribly, a feeling of dread Washing over her. Something happened, she could just feel it. It was the same feelings felt the day she got kidnapped. Her fear caused her to react almost instantly Megan ran across her room to her door. Locking it and pushing one of her chairs up against it.
She closed her window, locking the hatch and shutting the curtains so that she was in complete darkness. The whispering in her ear picked up, each cry of agony falling to deaf ears as she begun to lose control of her own body, her own mind. Then, suddenly, her bedroom door was knocked off its hinges, with a thud her grandfather stumbled into the room a frantic look on his face. His eyes were swollen, the obvious tear stains that aligned his cheeks told Megan what she already knew. something happened. Not a word was said, Eddie sat down beside her on the floor. The pain In his chest worsening with each breath he took.
He couldn't say it, he didn't have the strength to tell her the terrifying news. He didn't have the stomach to tell his granddaughter that her mother was dead. More silence filled the room. Subconsciously Megan felt herself cowering back into the little protective room in her mind that she always locked herself in when she felt scared. This was the only time the voices in her head tried to help her, instead of making her life a living hell. They wanted her to be safe, and she believed them.
Dianna arrived shortly after, Eddie and Megan still sat motionlessly on the floor. The look in her granddaughters eyes when she walked into the room was something that she has never seen before. It was something that would haunt her Every night for the rest of her life. The pain that shines in them, the confusion, the questions, some many things were swirling around and she felt pity for her granddaughter. Who all her life has known, suffering, and pain.
"Megan, there was an accident today involving your mom. Now before I tell you this you have to promise me that you won't run away or shut me out." Dianna, squatted so she was eye level with Megan, holding her gaze looking for a sign of anything that should worry her.
Megan said nothing, she held Dianna's gaze with the same intensity. Somehow already knowing what she was about to say. A part of her was missing, gone to never return again. Lost for eternity.
"Your mother died Megan. Im so sorry."
She was numb, as those words left Dianna's lips Megan completely shut off. She lost every bit of sanity she had in that moment to the point that she was terrified of herself. What she could do in this moment. Tears relentlessly cascaded down her cheeks leaving a blotchy stain on her cheeks that she was sure was going to be permanently tattooed on her face for the rest of her life. Her mouth open and closed, she was gasping and gaping for air as she clutched her chest. She lurched forward, panting, drowning in her own sorrow. The pain in her chest, the lost that she felt was something that no one her age should have to feel. It was malicious, it was cruel and it was going to kill her. She felt that a part of her had been ripped away. A hole in her chest that could never be repaired. She had lost everything. Dianna wrapped Megan in her arms, holding her tightly to her chest immobilizing her. Her grip was made of steel. Megan fought it the best she could. She screamed in agony, kicking her legs violently to free herself from the warmth, from the hurt, from the pain. She cried until she couldn't anymore, until her body was drained to the point where she couldn't move on her own. And it was then, as she lie in her grandmother's arms that the door locked, her demons were silent. Everything was still and Megan completely lost touch with herself.
*End of flashback*
She shuddered at the memory, the days, months, years after that moment she had no recollection of. She remembered some parts. Although the most important parts were still foggy. That was the Moment that defied everything she ever knew. And it terrified Megan now as she thought about it. How she lost herself just like that and feared of it happening again.
