Braxton took Megan's case without any hesitation, he felt he owed Megan after everything that happened with her mom. He had to do right by her and this, winning this case would in his mind help resolve the ultimate guilt he felt Every waking moment since Demi's death.
To even start a case Megan would need to get a court ordered warrant to her medical documents for the last ten years. She would then have to find the contract that her grandmother singed that got her there in the first place.
If they didn't agree it would take even longer, Megan got off the phone with Braxton she felt as if all the energy she had waking up was drained from her body. Just the thought of taking this in front of a judge scared her to death.
In the meantime, Megan did not go to any of her meetings, Braxton had advised that she not tell them anything that could Jeopardize their case. Megan vouched on adina's behalf, knowing that the women would not turn against her only it wasn't guaranteed and that's what he was trying to tell her, if they wanted to do this they had to play it smart and by the book.
Inturn for not attending her sessions Megan wrote down every detail and feeling she had during the day. It helped her deal with the different emotions she felt and the overwhelming feeling she got when she was at work.
"You got news for me?", Megan questioned pouring Braxton a cup of coffee. He placed his brief case on the counter sliding into the stool the look on his face made Megan uneasy.
"Like I expected they're fighting us, I didn't want to have to take this in front of a judge but it looks like we might be heading in that direction." He informed her, shooting her a sad look.
Megan sighed , drying her hands on the dishrag as she leaned across the counter. "Maybe I should just leave it, I don't want to cause anymore trouble then I already have." She states, chewing at her lip nervously.
Braxton shook his head clasping his hand over hers. "You can not give up, I might have failed your mother but I will not fail you. We will win this case and get your freedom back okay? There's going to be bumps in the roads but if it were easy something would be wrong."
Megan squeezed his hand in comfort. "My mom loved you, she knows you did everything you can and so do I. Don't feel like you owe her by doing this, because she'd appreciate everything you did for her anyway."
Braxton choked back his tears, those words stringing at his heart, he missed her just as much as anyone else. And the lost still was heavy on his shoulders. "Thank you, that means alot.,". Both of them too caught up in the heartfelt moment didn't notice Aiden watching them with a perplexed expression.
"Excuse me?"
Megan cheeks flamed a bright red, she dropped his hand, turning her attention to Aiden. "How may I help you sir?" Pen and paper in hand she was prepared to write down his order only he didn't say anything, just stared at her and Braxton who was gathering his things to leave.
"I'll call you later?" Megan nodded bidding her farewells.
"Do you usually stop attending customers to flirt with your boyfriend?" Aiden snipped, shooting Megan a glare.
There were a number of ways megan wanted to respond to this, but knowing she was about to be in a middle of a legal war she didn't need anything such as arguing with a customer and threatening to beat the shit out of him held against her in court so she took the professional approach.
"How may I help you?"
"Decaf, two creams and sugar." He grunted, megan smiled and put his order in right away.
"Are you always this grumpy in the morning? " she questioned him, handing aiden his coffee.
He sipped his drink never taking his eyes off of her. "Its the case I'm working on, really stressful and I don't have any leads."
Megan seemed to perk at this, "Maybe I can help you? Whats the case about?" her shift was nearly over, she was working a half day to fill in for a colleague.
He chuckled a deep throaty chuckle that sent shivers down her spin in a good way. "You wouldn't know the first thing about helping me."
"And what made you come to that assumption? You don't know what I can and can't do." Her eyes held challenge in them.
He waved her over and megan smiled brightly feeling victorious. She hung up her apron and clocked out. They end up taking a booth in the back, away from all the commotion of the afternoon rush.
"Missing child, she's fifthteen, African American girl with dark brown hair last seen wearing this t shirt." He held out a picture of what the girl was wearing a basic graphic tee.
"I have no leads, I know her mother wasn't the best. She was a drug addict and father isn't present in her life, she was supposed to be at her grand mothers house but never showed up." He continued his eyes becoming gloomy.
"Do you think there's a possibility's of her running away?" Megan askes him, twirling the picture of the girl around her fingers.
"That's what I was thinking, but where would I even began looking? Her mother is so out of it she didn't even realise her daughter was missing." Aiden said Solemnly.
"I know a thing or two about running away." She said more to herself than him, "Whenever I thought about running I searched for places I felt most safe it, that's just me but you should try searching abadoned buildings, places far away from the city if I know one things for sures she will be looking for a way to get out of cali."
He wrote everything megan was saying down making sure to take notes that'll hopefully break a lead in his case. By now it was winding down to him having to get back to work. They bid farewells, he thanked her for the information megan blushed, fixing her gaze down to her feet.
"Why do you always look down when I compliment you?" He was curious.
Megan shrugged, "I don't know." She did she just didn't want to get in to it with him. If he knew half The shit going through her mind he would run off and she didn't want that. Megan liked his company and wanted him to stay.
"I think you do, and i want to hear more about it tomorrow if you'll accompany me to dinner?" He said smoothly, with Hopeful eyes.
Megan looked up in shock, feeling her heart skip just at the question, she didn't know what to say suddenly finding it hard to enunciate words. After several moments she finally got it out. "Yea, sure, I'd love too."
