You Shouldn't Kiss Me

A/N: This story was born out of  a combo of a song stalking me and just general dissatisfaction over an episode that I'd only seen a clip from... Yes... it's Troy Story and Yes... it's the kiss between Bobby and Tara. But... the song... is 'You shouldn't kiss me like This' by Toby Keith. I started wondering what Bobby and Tara could get themselves wrapped up in if all they had was a series of stolen moments... you know... kinda like Jack and Sue... so we're starting within Troy Story... same night they kissed and by the end... well... it will have progressed through the rest of the year.  enjoy!

February.....

Tara peeked out the window and watched Bobby walk back to his car. She gently touched her fingers to her lips, as if saving the memory of his lips on hers. Once he'd driven away, she shrugged out of her coat and hung it up. She sighed heavily as she leaned up against the closet door. 'Bobby...' she thought. 'Why did you have to kiss me?'

Tara had survived for years on the thought that Bobby was certainly a very attractive man and she couldn't help but be attracted to him. She had distanced herself quite well... watched him date Darcy and tried to focus on her own relationships. She snorted. "What relationships...?" She muttered as she flopped onto the couch, not caring if she wrinkled her dress. Stanley was about the only one that would count, but she'd been hearing some things... and there were not really the feelings for him present that she'd need to feel if she was to commit to him. She felt those feelings for Bobby... but not for Stanley.

Tara rubbed her hands over her face. She wasn't supposed to feel those feelings for Bobby. He was her partner... And he was with Darcy. Well, they'd been together and she was disappointed in his supposed lack of commitment. Tara wished that she could have had a chat with Darcy. Apparently she didn't realize how dedicated to her Bobby was... Her cheeks flushed as she realized that tonight's kiss kinda meant that maybe Bobby wasn't as dedicated to Darcy as he once had been.

She got up and went to get ready for bed. She hung her dress carefully in the closet, scowling at it. Maybe she'd looked too good tonight. She was just supposed to be his escort, not his substitute girlfriend. 'Was that even supposed to happen? Is it possible to look too good and make someone...' she frowned as she came to the conclusion that she was confused.

Tara groaned as she fell into her bed and grabbed a pillow to hug. She gently traced her lips again, the quick memory of his lips on hers flooding her mind. All she knew was that in that brief moment... that one... precious, to be cherished forever... moment... her heart had skipped a beat. It had never reacted like that to anyone else's kiss ever. Tara wasn't so sure she appreciated the funny fluttery feeling she had in her stomach right now and was certain it would make falling asleep difficult. "Bobby Manning...." She mumbled to the ceiling. "Why in the world did you have to kiss me?"

I've got a funny feeling

The moment that your lips touched mine

Something shot right through me

My heart skipped a beat in time

Bobby arrived home without realizing how exactly he'd gotten there. He must have had all green lights because he certainly didn't remember stopping. His mind was still with Tara. She had been different tonight. 'Was it the dress?' he wondered, scratching his head as he opened his front door. Must have been. Tara didn't usually wear dresses... 'Or that much makeup.' His brain supplied helpfully. The slight aroma of vanilla that always caught his attention when he was on his way to the coffeepot in the mornings, was a little heavier tonight and still assaulted his senses as his coat had picked up her scent. He inhaled deeply as he hung it up in the closet.
