February 14. Valentine’s Day, the day of hearts. But how come I can no longer appreciate this day? And for the second time around, I ditched her.

I took my glass of tequila as I gazed at the people on the dance floor. I heaved out a sigh as I realized what I just did. I lied to her. I lied to my wife.

“Kief!” someone called.

“Uy Fort!” I said as we did a handshake.

“Anong ginagawa mo dito?” he asked. “Kasama mo asawa mo?”

I looked away. “Ahh, hindi eh.”

Kumunot ang noo niya. He was about to say something when a girl came.

“Jo.” He mumbled. “Ah, by the way Kief, this is Joan, my girlfriend.”

He shifted his gaze to Joan. “Jo, si Kiefer.”

She smiled. “Hi.”

“Hello.” I said.

“Ah, Kief, mauna na kami.” singit ni Jeric. “Nice to see you.”

I nodded. “Nice to see you too… Nice to meet you rin Joan.”

“Likewise.” She said.

They made their way out the bar. I on the other hand, was left with my bottle of tequila, and the noise of the people partying on the dance floor.

“Broken hearted po ba kayo sir?” tanong ng bartender, who seemed to be just a few years older than me.

I looked at him. “Ba’t mo naman nasabi?”

“Valentine’s day po ngayon, pero heto. Ka date niyo tong tequila niyo.” He answered.

I eyed on my drink. “Hindi ko alam.”

“Hindi mo alam na Valentine’s ngayon?” he asked.

“Hindi ko alam kung ano ang nararamdaman ko.” I said without looking at him.

“Eh ano po ba ang sinasabi ng puso mo?” he asked.

Napa-isip ako. Ano nga ba ang sinasabi ng puso ko

“Kung mahal mo siya, eh di wala kang dapat ika-lito.” He said. “Simple lang ang mga bagay-bagay sir. Tayo lang yung nagpapa-kumplikado ng lahat.”

Oo mahal ko siya. In the first place, pinakasalan ko siya dahil mahal ko siya. But is love even enough for this marriage to work?
