The court has been my sanctuary ever since I learned how to play ball. It has always been the place where I let out all my happiness, my anger, my frustrations and now, it has become the place where I hide.

I know I can never go away with this problem. Kahit kailan, I can’t have a child with the woman I love, unless if we adopt. At first I didn’t mind. Hindi naman yun ang habol ko when I married Grace.

I love everything about her, even her imperfections. Pero I never knew I could end up hiding away from the truth na kahit kailan hindi kami magkaka-anak.

I tried to make things okay again. I tried to keep things just the way it was before. Pero hindi talaga eh. And this marriage, I can feel that it’s slowly falling apart. I know it’s all because of me, and I hate it. Mahal ko si Grace. But there are just things that aren’t the same anymore.

I dribbled the ball and made a jump shot.  I heard someone clapped so I turned my back to know who it was.

“Von.” I mumbled.

“One on one?” he challenged.

I got the ball from the ground as I looked at him intently. What is he up to?

“Why? Are you threatened?” he mocked as he passed the ball back to me.

“Ako pa hinamon mo.” I said. “Mapapahiya ka lang bro.”

He chuckled. “Ang yabang mo pa rin!”

I headed to the bench and took my drink. “What are you doing here?”

“Wala lang. I just missed this place.” he replied.

“Eh ikaw? What are you doing here?” he asked. “Di ba may get together tayo?”

I turned my back to see him. “Nagpapalipas ng oras. And besides, mamaya pa naman yun diba?”

“May problema kayo ni Grace no?” he asked with no hesitations.

I was caught off guard with his inquiry. Hindi ko tuloy siya nasagot.

“So I’m right.” He said. “Bro next time kung magsisinungaling ka sa asawa mo, galing-galingan mo naman.”

“Sinisira mo ba talaga ang marriage niyo?” he asked.

I eyed on him. “Von..”

“Kief, ipapa-alala ko lang sa’yo ha.” He paused. “Mahal mo si Grace. You love her kaya nga pinakasalan mo siya diba?”

“You don’t know anything Von.” I said as I turned my back.

“Alam kong hindi kayo magkaka-anak.” He said which made me froze on my spot.

“I learned it from tita Olivia.” He explained. “But bro, hahayaan mo lang ba na ganito? I mean, you’ve been through so many things tapos sa isang iglap lang susuko ka na agad?”
