"I don't drown my sorrows. I suffocate them with chocolate"
THE FIRST TIME HIS eyes fell on her, he knew he was a complete goner. The girl was probably the most beautiful girl he'd ever seen he found himself completely awestruck as he stood there at the door, like an utter idiot he was. Declan Curtis let out a curse under his breath and quickly turned around from the door of the café, running his fingers through his hair in exasperation.
This was such a bad idea, he thought. "Damn it," He whispered when the beautiful girl began to laugh at something her coworker said, the melodious sound made his heart race and pound like it'd never been before.
Seeing that Declan had just graduated from high school, his mom thought that it would be a great idea for him to start looking for a part-time job. But Declan thought the complete opposite. He would rather stay at home and work on his books and paintings - he'd told his parents this but they were adamant in their decision - and long story short, Declan's mom got him a job as a waiter in a café that she used to work at before she married his dad.
It was almost fifteen years ever since his mom, Evelyn, married Andrew Curtis, his dad or more precisely, step-dad. Long ago, it was just him and his mom ever since Declan's birth father left his mom when he found out she was pregnant with Declan. Declan had never actually met him, except once or twice when he was a kid, but he never planned to. He was a prick, according to his dad.
Anyway, Andrew was a cool dad and a cool person in general. There were times when they'd have a quarrel or fight, but Declan knew his dad treasured him and cared for him, despite the fact that he wasn't really his son. But, once, his dad had told Declan that he loved him and Declan was his son and being related by blood or not, there was nothing in this world that could change that.
Declan never felt like he was a step-son in the family and in his eyes for Andrew would always be his dad and neither one of them would want it any other way. It was the same as Declan's siblings. A few months after his parents' marriage, Emmet Curtis was born.
Declan had been four years old, almost five years old at that time and apparently, Emmet was born several weeks early and there had been complications. He was a small little thing, his brother. Declan didn't remember the details but there was a lot of medical procedures and medications involved. Fortunately, everything was alright for all of them when Emmet turned a month old.
And now, at the age of thirteen, it was like the agonizingly slow surgeries and tormenting nights spent at the hospital never happened. Emmet was, despite a little short for his age, like any other teenagers - fun, boisterous and very spirited. Qualities that Declan did not possess, so it seemed. Unfortunately, their mom, could not get pregnant again after Emmet, and their mom had this crazy idea to adopt.
It had been an impromptu idea from their mother, but their dad, who was still besotted with her and was willing to do anything so she'd be happy, agreed to it. Keith and Joel Curtis were one year olds when their parents first brought them to the house which was a year ago. They were twins and it was almost impossible for Declan's dad, Emmet and even him to tell them apart, but it was easy for his mom. Keith and Joel was originally from Japan and their birth parents had been killed in a car accident when they migrated to states.
