DECLAN WAS AWAKEN BY the delicious and delightful smell of bacon. Quickly putting on his glasses, he rushed towards the bathroom and washed his face and brushed his teeth before dashing down the stairs. Only God knows how heavenly his mom’s bacons are! And there was no way Declan was going to miss them.
Upon arriving downstairs with a sketchbook and a pencil in hand, Declan heaved out a breath of relief when he saw nobody but his mom at the kitchen. “Morning, mom,” He called and sat on his usual seat on the chair, his mouth watering to the sight of the wondrous breakfast set on the table.
“Oh, sweetheart,” Evelyn Curtis then abandoned the food on the stove and made her way towards him, kissing Declan on his head. “What happened to my baby yesterday? Mrs. Durant told me you slipped and fainted at her café! Why didn’t you tell me!? I was worried!”
Declan groaned softly and pushed his mother’s hand away from his cheek gently. “I’m sorry I didn’t tell you, mom. But I promise, I’m fine,” His mother had always been treating him like he was a six years old instead of an eighteen year old young adult he really was. Declan then sighed when he saw that his mom was still unconvinced and took her hand, squeezing it gently. “I promise, mom. I’m alright. Your bacon will help save me, that’s for sure,”
Chuckling, his mom went and kissed him on the cheek. “I can’t help but worry, sweetheart. You’re my firstborn, I love you,” Evelyn Curtis then went towards the stove and turned it off before carefully pouring the egg soup in a bowl. Egg soup was be Keith and Joel’s favorite food. Those boys refused to eat anything but egg soups for breakfast.
Soon, the rest of the Curtis sat on their usual seat. Emmet was half-asleep when he arrived at the kitchen and received the same kiss on the forehead by their mom. “Everything smells delicious mom. Can I eat the bacon now?”
“No, sweetie. Wait for your dad,”Emmet groaned. “But mom, dad always took forever to get ready! Everyone knows that!” Their mom laughed, shaking her head and murmured something like ‘don’t I know it?’ under her breath as she washed the dishes. Sighing, Declan’s thirteen year old brother then turned towards him and smiled sweetly and wickedly. “Hey there, big brother,”
Declan sighed, taking out his sketchbook and began running his pencil across the paper. “What do you want?”
“Can you please, please, please, drive me to Garret’s house later at 11?” Even at thirteen years of age, Emmet still had those baby face looks and big, soulful eyes that never failed to make their parents (and occasionally, Declan, himself) surrendered to his powers. And at present – as expected – Emmet was wearing his infamous innocent and begging looks at its best. “I already asked mom and dad and they said I have to ask you. So, please Declan, I’ll be back before the thing at mom’s old friend later tonight,”
Taking a sip of his hot cocoa, Declan heaved out a sigh. “What’s in it for me, little brother? When doing businesses with me, I strongly advise you to prepare something for me in advance,”
Emmet huffed. “Fine. I’ll clean your car and your room,”
Declan couldn’t suppress the smirk on his face as he studied his younger brother. It was so entertaining to use him like this. “Deal,” He then watched as Emmet groaned when their mom planted a sloppy kiss on his cheek, patting his messy black hair (similar to their dad’s).
