"how do you manage to score detention on the first day?" michael laughed, patting calum's back as they made their way into the ridiculously large cafeteria, calum's eyes widening at all the tables and people, almost forgetting what michael said.

"huh? oh, i don't know? obviously it wasn't fair, that teacher has some major issues." calum huffed, making his way over to a table as he began to unbox his lunch, pulling out a bunch of items first starting with his chicken with rice and beans that his mother packed along with layers of pita bread and goat cheese with tomatoes.

michael's eyes widened as he watched the small boy practically pull out a feast in such a small lunch box, raising an eyebrow. "woah wait- is this what you guys eat in greece for lunch?" michael asked, looking over at the ethnic food that he's never seen in america.

"uh huh, this is what we eat, or when i'm lazy i make a sandwich with feta cheese and chicken or something." the raven haired boy said, shrugging his shoulders as he began to dig into his lunch, michael watching in awe.

"anyways," michael began, "you were disrupting his class, so you kinda did deserve detention." michael said, biting his lip as he pulled out his own lunch which was a turkey and cheese sandwich, the lack of meat and the amount of processed cheese making calum shudder.

"my fault? you were talking to me!" calum huffed, rice grains spilling out of his mouth as he talked, causing michael to roll his eyes, reaching over to wipe the grains from the boy's pouty lips.

"yeah, i was; but no one told you to reply to me. you could've ignored me, yeah?" michael responded, raising his eyebrow as if he were challenging the smaller boy, causing calum to roll his eyes, staying silent after that.

they continued to talk for the rest of the lunch period, calum inviting michael over his house which the boy quickly accepted making calum very excited for the weekend, but not so excited for the next two hours after school. what was he going to tell his mother? 'hey mom, i scored detention on the first day of school!'

calum took a deep breath as he heard the bell ring, him and michael getting up as they both walked out of the cafeteria splitting apart. it was the last two periods and calum was spending it with a block period of study hall where he did absolutely nothing but think about mr. hemmings.

**

"calum, great you've made it." mr. hemmings said unenthusiastically, pulling out his chair to sit down, grabbing his pen to write down the raven haired boy's name as attendance.

"obviously." calum grunted, flinging his bag off of his skinny shoulder to place on the marble desk below him. "what do i do here? i've never gotten detention is greece." the boy spoke, his voice sincere which caused the older blonde to look up at him, his blue eyes locking on the teenage boy's face.

"they don't have detention in greece?" mr. hemmings asked, raising his eyebrow as calum shook his head. the teacher took a deep breath, getting up from his desk as he began to stride over to calum, leaving a respectful distance between them.

mr. hemmings breathed gently, looking down at the boy before opening his mouth: "well calum, do you have any homework?" he asked, crossing his arms over his chest as calum squinted at him.

"homework? why would i have homework, it's literally my first day here." the raven hair boy huffed, causing the teacher to clench his jaw, looking at calum with a stern eye before walking around the boy in a circle, his hand fiddling with the growing scruff on his chin. calum felt as if he were being interrogated, he wasn't sure if this was an american thing, but he surely didn't enjoy it.

calum tried his hardest to keep his gaze on the floor, watching mr. hemmings' feet come in and out of his peripheral view before he looked up at the man, watching him walk in circles around calum as if he were a hawk and the little boy was his prey.

"did they teach you to have such a big mouth in greece? or is that something that comes along?" the man said rhetorically, hushing the younger boy once he saw his mouth open as if he was about to answer the question. luke took a deep breath before stopping short behind calum, placing his fingertips on the boys neck.

"alright calum, since you claim you don't have work, why don't you help me, yeah?" the teacher spoke, making an ultimatum. "see those stacks of papers over there?" he began, pointing to the papers on his desk as he moved his head to sit on the little boy's shoulder, "use my answer key and grade 'em. if you finish before detention is officially over you can leave, got it?" luke said, causing the flushed boy to nod his head before pushing away from the teacher, his skin covered in goosebumps.

for once in calum's life, he sat quiet and began to work; but his mind was already racing with the dirty thoughts of him and his math teacher.

**

calum went back to school the next day, unsure about the events that happened yesterday. was mr. hemmings being friendly? was he flirting? or was this simply just the attitude some american teachers had. calum tried to shake these thoughts from his head, deciding to just ignore the voice in his head.

the raven haired boy made his way over to his locker, spinning in his combination before turning his head to the side just in time to see the lilac haired friend he made walking towards him.

"hey calvin!" michael squeaked, waving his hand as calum raised an eyebrow, turning around to see if this supposed 'calvin' was behind him. "i'm talking to you, silly!" michael huffed, rolling his eyes as he leaned against the boy's locker.

"you know damn well my name isn't calvin. it's calum, get it right or don't talk to me." calum sassed, his thick accent protruding through his words making michael's cheeks turn bright red.

"oh- i'm sorry, i didn't know." michael muttered, calum suddenly feeling bad before michael opened his mouth once again, "anyways, i was hoping we could hang out today after school? you know that is if you don't get detention, by the way, how did that go?" the lilac boy blabbed, causing calum to stare at him for a while, taking a moment to translate the words the american boy spat out.

"uh, yes i'd like to hang out today," calum began slowly before tacking on the other questions, "and detention was.. weird." he muttered, not sure if he wanted to tell michael what happened just yet. heritage wasn't proud; meaning no matter where you came from, no one was trustworthy enough to hold calum's trust.

"why was it weird?" michael asked, making calum purse his lips as he grabbed his math binder and slipped it inside of his little bag, shutting his locker door before slowly backing away from michael, leaving his question unanswered as he made his way towards the math class, a confused lilac haired lad following right behind him.

"morning michael," mr. hemmings greeted, nodding in michael's direction as he simply eyed calum up and down, nodding his head towards him; "calum." he deadpanned, causing the tan boy to frown, making his way to his seat as he sat down, taking out the homework that he frantically did during study hall.

"today we'll be moving further into our unit." mr. hemmings began, turning around to spell out absolute value equations on his bored, giving calum and mikey some downtime to talk.

"why did you ignore me in the hallway?" michael whispered, calum trying his hardest to ignore the boy but couldn't do so easily.

"can we talk about this at your house? i don't want to get detention again." calum said back in a hushed tone, causing michael to nod his head before their eyes resumed to the board.

the thing was, calum wasn't sure if he wanted to talk just yet.
