I woke up later during the night… I checked the time on my phone and was shocked realising that I had been sleeping for so long. My brother was awake and he was eating his egg sandwiches that I had for him before our departure. I checked my Facebook account and noticed that Melody had already accepted me as a friend. I looked out of the window. It was raining heavily. The bus stopped, allowing the college girls to get out and other passengers to come in.
“Everlie?” my brother said.
“Yep… what do you want?” I replied with a yawn.
“I’m cold.”
“Come here, ill cover you up.”
My brother came rushing to me, I moved up one seat so he was the one sitting next to the window now. I held him really tightly.
“Dave?”
“Yes?”
“I’d just like you to know that no matter what happens to you, I want you to stay courageous.”
Dave leaned forward and looked at me. My eyes welled up with tears, he looked so much like mama, his eyes, the way he just stared at me, everything he did was exactly the same way mummy did.
“Everlie what are you talking about?” he said, with a frown on his face.
“Nothing important Dave, but please remember that daddy always knew that you would become someone very brave and very strong. It was always daddy’s wish.”
“Everlie...”
That’s it, my brother’s eyes became filled with tears that I had to get out my handkerchief to wipe them away.
“Don’t cry Dave, be a good boy and become strong, I always believed in a bright future and I know that one day I will be able to see you grow up and you will become a great lad ready to fight anything in this world. I know you can do it.”
Dave jumped into my arms. I held him so tightly, this was such a heart-breaking moment knowing that this will be the last time that I will be able to hold my brother in such a manner. My last time. The bus came to a stop. This is it.
“Come on Dave, the time has come.” We both stood up.
“Everlie…”
“Look Dave…” I knelt down on my knees, holding his shoulders in place preventing myself from bursting into tears.
“…this in not the last time that you will see me, I promise you Dave, you have been my only sibling and you are very precious to me…” I held his small hand and slapped his bum just as a mother would do to her baby.
“Become a good military soldier, make daddy proud of you.”
“But dad isn’t even coming back!” he said with a shaky voice.
“You never know what the future hides, daddy is probably lost and is always thinking about you. He could have gone anywhere after all that drinking, make him proud Dave, you were always his favourite.”
“Everlie…”
“Don’t.” I put my finger on his lips preventing him from talking.
“Don’t cry and be brave and we will soon be reunited altogether, me you mum and dad. It’s a promise.”
“You promise?”
“I pinkie promise you Dave.” We held our small fingers up and entwined them together showing each other that promises will always stay as promises.
“Come on Dave, it’s time to go.” I held his hand and dragged him out of the bus, not forgetting any of his belongings.
We walked on a road that said ‘one way road to destination’. We followed that route until the end of the road. On the left hand side was a massive gate. It was the Camperlane academy. I stepped back… no way was I going to let my brother stay alone in this academy, I was about to make a move back when somebody arrived from the school front door. It was a very tall man. He wore a huge, long, black cloak that went down to the floor, he was very pale. He wore a long, olden time hat and hat a stick in his hand. Just like the old typical vampire.
