Chapter 1

Rin frowns as she impatiently waits for the librarian to give her library card back.

She huffs in irritation. By the request of her guardian, she's required to take these daily check-ins with the librarian for recent updates on her library card and clearances.

The Bookyard Library is divided into three levels; Omega, Beta, and Alpha. Level Omega is accessible by the general populace, Level Beta requires higher clearance that houses a minority of old archives, and Level Alpha, being the highest and most secure level that houses questionable archives, needs a recommendation of a higher authority before the librarian grants clearance.

Rin is anything but grateful for her guardian's recommendation. She's thankful but not grateful, knowing that she can grasp any book in the Restricted Sections, a reputation that Level Alpha garnered, the challenge is nonexistent almost as going on a horror house without any scare.

If she can, she would've already chucked the library card and clearance at the librarian's face long ago. She doesn't hold any personal vendetta against the librarian, she only loves the idea of riling her guardian in everything she does and she holds a lot of respect towards the librarian to be able to do that without conscience.

"Here," the librarian hands her library card over.

Rin grasps the card with a vice-grip, careful not to snap it in irritation.

The library card serves as a passport. It holds people's full name, their ID serial numbers, and their color-coded clearance levels. The material produced from the library is of a special mineral made to be durable and unable to bend so easily. Below the library card information are the color-coded clearance levels being green, blue, and red. Being Omega; green, Beta; blue, Alpha: red.

"Thank you," straining a smile, Rin wanders around the library sections after having her library card back from the glaring elderly woman. She walks deeper into the library, lazily brushing her fingers against several book spines.

Dust beginnings to gather at her fingertips as she barely feels the leather because of her gloved hand. Walking aimlessly for a moment longer, she blinks in disbelief when she comes across the boy from the day before.

He has his head resting on a book. His golden eyes are glazed with indifference as if he's trapped in a mesmerizing daydream and his glasses took a perch on top of his head.

Rin walks towards the boy without a second thought, threading carefully as if approaching a timid kitten that might scurry away before she can start a conversation with him like before.

Yesterday prior, he unexpectedly ran off after she offered her friendship and caused a small ruckus in the library as he did so.

She has to admit, his flustered face when he ran off was adorable but at the same time, she's confused and offended on why he ran off at the sight of her face. She pouts but it doesn't stop her from being friends with him even if it means dragging him away, kicking and screaming if she has to.
