Phoenix's POV
I groaned as I walked towards the door of my own personal hell hole. Everwood High School. The rain continued to pour on me as I made my way towards the red metal doors. Flinging my dripping blood red hair over my shoulder, I shoved open the doors and walked to my first class. My black converse made a wet squeaking sound as I walked with my head down. People ignored me as I made my way down the hall. Passing my brother and his friends, I silently entered my English class. I still had 20 minutes until class started so I got out my notebook and started to draw. I zoned out as my hand seemed to move on it's own, shaping spires and turrets. Glancing down, I realized that I had drawn a castle. Ironically, it looked just like the one from Harry Potter. Looking up as the bell rang, I realized that the class was already full. I glanced at the empty seats surrounding me as usual. Staring out the window, I sighed as I realized I would have to walk home in the rain again. I looked up as the teacher started to talk.
"Today we will be studying the myth of Tantalus. Does anybody know anything about this myth?"
Rolling my eyes as nobody raised their hand, I raised my own. She looked around passing over me completely.
"Nobody knows about his story? Nobody at all?" She asked, ignoring my raised hand. Slowly I lowered my hand as she started to explain. Tantalus was a man loved by the gods. But he wasn't happy with them. He was jealous of their perfection. So he cooked his own son Pelop into a soup and served it to the gods at a feast. The gods knew though and they punished him for eternity by putting him in Tartarus. Pelop was then brought back to life and given a shoulder made out of ivory as Demeter ate his real shoulder accidentally. Tantalus is forever tortured by having food and water within his reach yet he cant touch either. For homework we were assigned to write 2 paragraphs on the lesson of this myth. Another assignment I would fail. You see, no matter how well I do in any homework or assignment in any class, I always fail so I have now just decided to not do it. I have enough to do at home as it is. That's how my day went, as everyday for me did. Passing through all my classes with the same reaction every time I tried to say anything. In this school, I was either invisible or beaten up.
Finally, the final bell rang announcing that school was over. I walked out into the rain, feeling the cool wet droplets cascading down my face. Putting my headphones in, I relaxed as the music started to play. Holiday by Green Day came on just as I reached "home". I hated this place but there wasn't much I could do about it. It was the coven house but my brother was the coven leader ever since our parents died. We were supposed to rule it together as we are twins, but since I was the most hated person in this whole town, that didn't happen.
Let me explain. I'm a witch. And not just any witch. I'm an elemental as well as a demutador. My element is fire and my demuté was a phoenix obviously. Demutadors are rare and only the most powerful witches and warlocks could change form. That's why everyone in my coven hates me. The power should have been given to my brother, they say. That doesn't mean Andre isn't powerful. He is also an elemental. But his element is water, the opposite of mine. I guess it makes sense. People like him, they hate me. He is the one they follow, not me. He is the one that the coven would sacrifice their lives for, while they would probably kill me themselves if they could.
I walked down the stairs to my bedroom. It was an old dungeon cell that had been changed into a gloomy, isolated living space for me. Thanks to magic, it was the size of a master bedroom but that didn't help as it just showed how much my coven thought of me. I dropped my bag on my bed and walked back up the stairs to the kitchen. My hair continued to drip onto the black and white tiles as I made my way to the sink. I turned on the water and started to wash. That's how it was everyday. I got home, did all the chores, went to my room to sulk, came back up, cooked dinner for everybody, went back downstairs, then did the dishes again before going to bed.
I finished with the dishes just as I heard a knock on the door. Walking over, I opened the door to find 4 vampires standing there. Leaning against the door frame, I raised an eyebrow, wondering why our sworn enemies were standing on my doorstep. I opened my mouth to ask but before I got a single word out everything went black and my last thought was, 'Andre is going to kill me for not finishing my chores'.
