Momentary shock blast through her. Achingly, a source of pain began welling up from deep within her chest.
Pulling on a forced smile she tried, "No. You must have seen wrong." She turned away and reached for the papers the friend had taken away, but Yunyeong quickly turned her around.
"Don't lie to me," Yunyeong stared into her eyes. "You know something. Tell me."
Eyes quivering with nervousness Namjoo looked away, "It's nothing."
"Then is this baby also nothing?" Yunyeong asked bringing her eyes back to her. "Namjoo, this baby is going to start your family with Sehun. You can't let some other woman do this. If something is wrong, you need to tell me."
Namjoo was nearly persuaded to tell her about Seona but quickly drew back. She didn't want to cause trouble for Sehun. Everything was perfect for them so far. No matter what, Sehun was already rightfully hers. Losing him...was impossible. Sehun was happy, she knew he was happy. The way he'd been when he saw their baby for the first time, how ecstatic he'd been these days spoke of his feelings. That spoke of his love, did it not?
"Nothing is wrong," Namjoo assured.
Withdrawing her hands Yunyeong stared at her with disbelief, yet she didn't push further. "You love him too much, Namjoo. I'm afraid you're going to hurt yourself."
That evening, Namjoo watched the clock tick. She had, once again, prepared dinner. She didn't understand why she couldn't bring herself to even call Sehun at work. Was she afraid someone else would pick up? No, she didn't want to bother him. What if he was working hard and she interrupted? She understood how hard things could be for him. After all, this job wasn't his profession but he had luckily gotten it anyway. Getting promoted meant a lot and in order to keep this new position he would have to continue working ten times harder. Plus, the baby would put a burden on them, especially when she would have to take leave in the later months.
Tonight, would Sehun make it home?
By 8:30 Namjoo gave up waiting and finally picked up her spoon. Her baby needed to be fed even if she wanted to wait. After a few bites the door opened and she turned, waiting to watch Sehun walk in. She wanted to believe that he wanted to have dinner with her tonight. No, she believed. She definitely believed it.
"I'm home," Sehun announced walking through the doorway.
Smiling, relieved, Namjoo stood. "Let me get you a plate. I started without you."
"You shouldn't wait for me," Sehun said walking over to take the plate in hand for her. "I should've called, but it slipped my mind. Sorry."
Joining him at the table Namjoo watched him dig into the food. The only thing that mattered was that he was here with her. How joyful it made her.
"What?" Sehun looked up at her. "Stop staring."
Scoffing, Namjoo picked up her spoon. After a few bites she looked up again.
"I saw him. He was with someone yesterday."
Seona...
Namjoo quickly put a hand up to her mouth feeling sick all of a sudden. Looking up worried Sehun hurried over. Patting her back he worried, "Are you ok?"
Sehun cared. He cared...
Pushing the threatening acid back down her throat Namjoo gasped for a breath. "I'm ok."
"Here, have some water," Sehun handed her the glass of water. As he watched her drink Namjoo wondered whether to ask him or not. She wanted to know and at the same time, didn't.
