“Hey did you hear there’s a new family moving in just off the reservation”? My best friend and future Beta of our pack Toby asked me.

We were stretched out on bean bags in my room playing Black Op’s on split screen.

“Yeah, I’m gonna be Alpha bud I know everything that’s going on” I laughed cursing some kid in Canada that just launched a well aimed grenade at me.

“Human right”?

“Pretty sure, well we don’t have to meet them with the pack which is usually a heads up but in a town this small it’s better to make a good first impression, don’t want them getting suspicious or anything, again”.

“True, you gonna go over to the house”?

“Nah, the kid’s starting school with us tomorrow, I already told your Dad so he’s telling everyone for now that I’m on welcoming committee - for the humans benefit anyway”. Not many humans go to our school but it’s important that those who do don’t start to realise that they’re ‘not alone’.

“Do you know anything about them, is it a chick”? He asked hopefully making me smirk.

“All I know is that there’s two of them moving here, one our age and one adult”.

“Nicholas Flynn Roberts get your wolfy butt down here right now and take out the trash”! My Mom yelled, I love the woman but damn she does nothing for the badass image I try to keep up judging by Toby rolling around laughing on my carpet.

The next day I got up as usual stumbling through the pack house and downstairs to get something to eat - I swear no matter how much I eat for dinner I’m always starving by the morning, but it’s the same with all us werewolves or growing boys as my Mom puts it.

It’s only guys that inherit the werewolf gene so you can imagine the tons of stories we get told by mated couples about how they all handled the situation of coming clean to their mates about the whole werewolf and mated souls deal. My Dad told me that my Mom tried to hit him over the head with a frying pan thinking he was a psycho nut job, he laughed when he told me the story but his hand reflexively reached to the spot she hit him on and rubbed it like it still hurt.

Believe it or not my Mom’s reaction was a mild one, there have been horror stories that really made you think twice about a mate but it never worried me, I’ve always wanted to find my mate no matter what. I'm not afraid that she’ll freak out because I’ll make sure that I tell her right, if there is a right way to tell your soul mate that you’re a werewolf.

I walked into the kitchen and saw the usual line up on a school morning. Mostly kids my age which is eighteen, there were also the younger kids but I never really had to worry about them cos their Moms always took care of them.

I walked up behind Toby in stealth mode and swiped his toast right of his hand and munched on it. He turned around on his stool at the table and took two seconds to register his food in my mouth before he pounced on me and knocked us both to the tile floor.

No one tried to break up the fight because it happens nearly every day and everyone knew we weren’t out for blood so they all just carried on stepping over us, talking and spreading jelly on their toast and pouring syrup on pancakes.

I gained the lead when Toby pulled his toast out of my mouth and got I him in a head lock on his stomach, but then my Mom walked in.

“Boys! What have I told you about fighting in the house! You’re supposed to be role models as the future Alpha and Beta of this pack, do you want me to call you’re fathers”?
