“Uh, Ruby I don’t know what you’re talking about”.
I rolled my eyes at my new principle who was still gaping at me with the phone still pressed to his ear.
“Mr Bronze please, I don’t have a lot of time, I really need you to listen to me and I need the Alpha of your pack here too”.
Without taking his eyes off of me Mr Bronze swallowed convulsively and started talking into the phone again.
“... Danny, you get any of that”? There was a pause.
While he prattled onto ‘Danny’ I took the first chance I’ve had so far to contemplate my principle. Mr Bronze looks surprisingly young for someone who is supposed to run a school, but then according to his conversation some kids here are Werewolves too so I guess it kind of fits. I’ve never been to a pack where the Alpha or the Beta worked at the school, though normally the Werewolf kids have their own private school.
His light brown hair was cut short, business like, and even though he wears a suit he has the appearance of someone who isn’t comfortable in one. He has a strong build, the likes of which only now have a place of relevance because I know what he really is.
When I looked up again Mr Bronze had put the phone down and was giving me that same expression he regarded me with after the incident with Nick, like I was a time bomb a top a pile of TNT. I guess he has reason to be a little jumpy now.
He came around his desk and stood in front of it with his arms crossed, confusion clear on his face, not knowing how to start whatever line of questioning he was going to use. I sat quietly and patiently while he gathered his thoughts.
After exactly five minutes of silence the door to the small office opened without a knock, effectively shattering the quiet and the sense of cool I’d managed claw around myself. I didn’t turn to face the person at the door but waited for him to stand beside Mr Bronze who relaxed visibly with presence of the taller and darker haired man, the Alpha I presume.
Where Mr Bronze had pale blue eyes his Alpha had dark green, he looked a lot wiser and older in the eyes but could not have been any older than his Beta. They shared a brief look and turned their eyes on me immediately on the defensive as I expected they would be.
“Name”? ‘Danny’ asked. I was about to respond but obviously he was talking to Mr Bronze since he’s the one who answered.
“Ruby Rose Koons”.
“Age”?
“Eighteen”.
He opened his mouth again to ask another question so I interrupted him, not appreciating being talked about like I’m not in the room or don’t possess the intellect to understand what he’s saying.
“Excuse me, but I can talk for myself Alpha”. His eyes widened a fraction, not in anger but surprise. He gestured to me to go on.
“The reason that I’ve requested this meeting with you both is because well, I’ve come to help you, if you’ll let me that is”.
At that he laughed. “Help me? How exactly”? I felt my anger building, they never take me seriously - ever! I bet it’s because I’m a girl.
I shot up out of my seat and jabbed a finger at him. “Now listen straight, I take what I do very seriously and at risk to my own life so do not laugh at me, I’m doing you a favour so don’t you dare make a joke of it”!
The Alpha tilted his head to the side like a dog would to something strange and intriguing, while Mr Bronze looked confused.
“Well why don’t you tell us what it is you’d like to help us with”. Mr Bronze suggested obviously seeing my growing rage.
