Ruby
I found myself feeling extremely happy that it was Friday. Riding on the back of Nick’s bike to school again everything just seemed to feel right for once, plus Alpha Daniel called to tell me about the false trail that he and some of his pack members had made. My Dad’s guys picked up on it immediately and left early this morning to camp out in miles long and wide reservation for the weekend to scout out the surrounding areas – I told Alpha Daniel this and so he made sure to keep everyone in the pack house for the next few days.
Nick hadn’t let me out of his sight all morning and in all honesty I didn’t mind at all, it felt right to have him hold my hand. It felt good to know where he was and that where he was, was with me. At lunch we took our trays over to our normal table and sat next to each other, Nick with an arm round my waist and me leaning into his side for a change.
“Hey Ruby” Austin greeted happily, Gina next to him throwing me a warmer smile than she ever had before.
“Hi Austin.” I answered back a little shy; it’s weird but I feel like it’s my first day again. I just feel like a new person since Nick told me that he loved me, I felt all new and shiny. I was also a little worried that the guys would be angry with me for putting Nick through so much, but they were all smiles like normal.
“So, did you ask her yet?” Austin asked Nick now, eyeing me with a conspiratorial grin on his face.
My curiosity was instantly peeked; I wonder what Nick was going to ask me? “Ask me what?”
“Thanks Austin – I was waiting for the right moment!” Nick glared, his arm curling round me a little tighter, like he thought that even the suggestion of this news was going to make me run for the hills.
“Ask me what, Nick?” With one last glare at Austin, he turned to me.
“You don’t have to say yes or agree to anything – especially not because of them, ok?” Nick stressed.
Nodding along I gestured with my hands for him to go on. “Ok, what is it?”
“Dude you’re making it sound like you’re gonna ask her for a kidney or something.” Austin chuckled merrily until Gina smacked his arm lightly in a scolding, at which he pouted.
“Shut up! – Ruby, would you want to go to the beach tomorrow, with us? You don’t have to ok? We can do something together, just us or – if you want I can... leave you alone – I –“ My lips pulled down at the suggestion of him leaving me alone and the altogether floundering on his side, I can’t believe he was so nervous just to ask me out again. My heart sank a little deeper when I remembered that it was me that made him this way.
Resting a hand on his arm I gave it a subtle squeeze and nodded up at him. “No, that sounds good.”
“Really?” Nick sounded a little sceptical, at least his eyes were doing their best to search mine.
“Yeah, it sounds like fun.”
“Oh, ok uh – great, I’ll pick you up at twelve”? Nick asked me with a smile, getting into the idea now that he was certain it’s what I wanted; he’s adorable, I just want to squeeze him like a teddy bear.
