It’s Friday morning and I finally got a chance to call Trent, I felt so bad for not doing it sooner but I’ve been swamped! I overheard my Dad on the phone last night talking about moving in once they’ve gotten used to navigating themselves on the reservation, which means I’m slipping on my game and that can’t happen.
Due to Miss Tennie coming into my homeroom and telling me that the Principle wanted to see me, I found myself sat in the reception seating area with time to kill and a free few minutes to help a out friend.
“Hey Trent it’s me Ruby”.
“Hi it’s good to hear from you, have you got anything for me to work with”? I bit my lip in guilt at his relief and desperation, I’ve been neglecting my duties.
“Yes and it’s a little unorthodox and I think it can help you but I want to explain it in person, I don’t want you to hang up on me”.
“Oh God, alright I’ll send Harper to come get you after school, I can’t leave right now things are getting dicey”.
“Today”? I confirmed.
“Yeah sounds great, you’re still in school right”?
“Yeah, we get out at three here”.
“Cool, he’ll be waiting”.
“Make sure he drives fast I don’t want my Dad getting suspicious, I’ll need to be home by eight”.
There was a pause. “Why don’t you just wait until Saturday, get today out of the way and you can get here bright and early, it’ll give us a better chance to talk things through properly”.
“Alright I can do that, sure you’ll be alright until then”? I asked unsure.
“Yeah, the boys are doing good”.
“Ok, I’ll see you tomorrow”. The line disconnected and I wasn’t left long to ponder on tomorrow because Miss Tennie popped up again with a small smile.
“Miss Koons, the principle will see you now”. I nodded and smiled back politely.
I got up from my cushioned chairs outside of Mr Bronze’s office and stood up to knock on his door, there was a muffled come in and to my slight surprise the Alpha was there too, both men were perched on the desk as they were the last time I saw them. Out of respect I inclined my head to the Alpha and nodded at Mr Bronze in greeting, yeah I don’t like him.
“What was that”? Mr Bronze asked gesturing between myself and the Alpha who looked surprised.
“Respect, now what is it you wanted”? I asked a little curtly.
“Excuse m-“ My cell rang cutting off Mr Bronze and his rant and I picked it up straight away with a bad feeling in my stomach.
“Trent, what’s wrong”?
“They’re fucking everywhere"! He screamed at me. "More than I expected”. His was panting into the phone, barking out orders to his pack, I need to keep my head in this one.
“Calm down, where are they”?
“Everywhere Ruby”.
“Describe what you see I need to visualise”.
“They’re in fours, there are five groups of them, they’re just standing, waiting but there’s one pacing, he looks a little crazed Ruby”.
“Damn, they’re starting to wise up. Who is with you”?
“Harper, Senna and Cole flanking, other than that the rest of the males”.
“Numbers”?
“Thirty”.
