Alec, Clary and Jace walked through the portal from the alternate dimension and were all suddenly spit into the ground of a dirty basement. Alec stood up as soon as he caught sight of startling red hair.

"I'll guard the perimeter." Jace pulled out his Seraph blade and slowly stalked out of the basement.

Alec and Clary hurried up to Echo and started to loosen the restraints. Alec's movements were slow as Clary's were quick.

"Come on, help me get her." Clary looked up at Alec willing to help.

Alec swallowed before spitting into action. "I got her. Go find Jace."

Alec placed his arms under Echo's shoulders and knees and pulled her body close to his. Alec noticed how cold Echo felt in his arms.

Echo looked up at the blurry image of Alec, "Who are you?"

Alec looked down at her, "Echo it's me, Alec."

"Why are you helping me? Where is Valentine?"

Alec gave a soft kiss onto Echo's forehead, "I'm helping you because I've come to love you."

Alec was up the stairs and his gait stopped when he found who was hugging Jace. Clary stood beside Jace and Michael Wayland with confusion written on her face.

Alec stood behind Clary with Echo in his arms, "Michael Wayland?"

Michael detached himself from Jace and looked over at Alec, "You know me?"

Echo suddenly gave a painful cry and Alec looked down, "I'm taking her back to the institute."

Clary looked over at Alec, "We'll be there soon."

Alec adjusted his grip on Echo and hurried out of the dirty facility and made his way, through shortcuts and mundane driving, to the institute.

Alec walked through the doors of the institute tired, but he kept his grip on Echo tight. Maryse, Lydia and Isabelle were suddenly hurrying up to him. Alec glanced down at Echo and to his dismay, she hadn't actually lost consciousness and he knew she could still feel every ounce of pain that Valentine inflicted.

"Oh, my god. What did he do to her?"

Alec pushed past the Shadowhunters and hurried her to her room. Alec laid Echo onto her bed and pushed her hair from her face.

"Hey, Echo can you hear me?"

Echo opened her eyes and noticed the unfamiliarity of the room she was in.

"Where am I?" Echo's voice was strangled and shallow.

"We are at the institute."

Echo twisted, "Where's Valentine?"

Alec glanced up at his mother, "Valentine is gone." Alec pulled out his Stele and started to trace over her Iratze.

The rune burned into Echo's skin, but it would erase as Alec drew it.

"Damn it."

"We need to get Magnus." Isabelle was at the foot of the bed.

Alec looked up, "He already healed her once, his magic is low."

Isabelle started toward the door, "Then he'd better find more."

Isabelle left the room and Echo let out a shout. Alec pulled her hand into his and held on tightly.

Lydia pulled her arms close to her, "Whatever Valentine did to her is still in effect. I don't think it is safe to be close to her."

Alec shot a glance at Lydia and she shut her mouth.
