"Kate...time to wake up princess...come on Kate." Phoenix say as he shakes Kate awake. "Jacob and Dawn said they want us to meet them for something special." Kate yawns as she sits up and rubs her eyes. She looks at the empty bed across the room. "I miss her too Kate but we have to go meet the others." Phoenix tells Kate as he rubs his head against her neck. "It's ok I'm up little buddy." She replies petting Phoenix's head. She gets up and walks over to her dresser to grab her usual clothes.  A black shirt with her leather jacket and red leggings, and of course her combat boots.  "I think they're going to be deciding who will be the team leader." Phoenix tells Kate as they walk out of their room down to the training area. It had been 6 years since Artemis had left and Kate was now 14. She did miss her old friend but a lot had happen ever since, she was put into an elite group to be hand train by Jacob and Dawn. Kate had become very skilled in swordsmanship and her fire magic as well in strategy, and considered one of the best in her class.

"I'd say your qualified for the job."Phoenix says landing on her shoulder. "Pffft yeah right we all know it should be Layla. She is a level 7 light mage and the smartest kid in this entire academy." Kate replies. "Doesn't mean she's a great leader.Plus you could totally take her." Phoenix says winking at Kate. As the enter the training room they see their team mates. "Kate! You're finally here!" Alice says as her tail swings back and forth. Alice was a hybrid, a mix between two species, she was half mage and half cat. Her ears and tail were black as she had light blue hair and her yellow cat eyes. Alice's magic was the ability to drain energy from any living thing and send it to another, or use the energy for her own strength.   

"Yeah we can't start without you." Layla says. "You are our strongest teammate." Tucker adds in. Layla and Tucker had just recently became a couple and were actually pretty cute. Layla was the top light mage in the academy now and with one of the kindest guys in school they were like a power couple. Tucker's magic was strength, meaning he was pretty ripped, and was trained in hand to hand combat like Alice. He had his curly blonde hair barley covering part of his forehead and his bright blue eyes that made him stand out. "Not to mention our beautiful princess." Tom says rubbing his elbow on Kate's arm. Tom had become quite the flirt, but only to Kate. He would constantly call her princess and flirt non-stop. He was head over heels. But Kate never saw him as anything else than a friend. "Heh, thanks guys." Kate replies to their comments.

"Well then shall we start?" Dawn says as she walks in with Jacob. "Isn't what we've been waiting for?" Alice asks them. "Yes, and after some hard thinking and talking we have decided that your le-" "It's Kate." Jacob says cutting off Dawn. "Jacob! You can't do that it's very rude!" Dawn scolds him. "You were taking to long." He replies. Kate's eyes widen as phoenix chuckles "I told you didn't I?" Phoenix says. "M-me?" Kate asks as Jacob nods. "I don't see a problem with it." Tucker says. "You are the best here princess." Tom adds in as the others nod in agreement. "Congrats! Now we can finally go on missions!" Alice says hugging Kate in celebration."Wow this is...... a lot to take in." Kate says still stunned. "Well why don't you take a break today." Dawn puts a hand on her shoulder "You've been working really hard." She says. Kate nods as her and phoenix walk out of the room.

"I.....can't believe this." Kate says putting a hand over one eye. "Well you are a natural born leader, I'll tell you that." Phoenix says comforting her. Just as they were walking Kate bumps into someone making them fall to the ground. She opens her eyes to see a boy just a bit older than her. Perfect jet black hair and stunning green eyes, her heart skips a beat as she stares at the boy. "Ah I'm so sorry I didn't mean to bump into you I swear!" She says nervously. "Hey it's fine, I wasn't looking were I was going either." he says standing up and offering his hand. He pulls Kate up and smiles at her. She blushes as she smiles back. "My n-n-name's Kate." She stutters holding out her hand for him to shake. He smirks again "Cameron." He shakes her hand and walks away.

"I think I'm gonna die." Kate says flopping onto her bed, her face burning red from her encounter. "I hardly believe that." Phoenix says flying up to her bed stand watching her from above. "I mean did you see him! He was so handsome, and his smile, oh don't get me started on his voice." She says flipping over so her face was right below Phoenix. "It's like he was my soulmate." She says in a puppy love tone. Phoenix sighs "You don't even know what a soulmate is Kate." He says. "Can you blame me. I mean I've been stuck at this academy ever since I was a baby. I've never even been outside the walls." Kate replies is a harsh tone but calms herself down. "Then what is a 'soulmate' Phoenix." She asks

"Well..." He starts off "It's like a best friend but more. It's the one person who knows you better than anyone else. Someone who makes you a better person." He pauses as Kate watches his every move. "Actually they don't make you a better person you do that yourself. Because they inspire you." He continues " A soulmate is someone who you carry with you forever. It's the one person who knew you and accepted you and.... believed in you before anyone else. Or when no one else would. And no matter what happens you'll always love them. Nothing can change that." He finishes. Kate looks at him her red eyes sparkling like a new flame. She smiles.

"I think I found my soulmate." She says sitting up.

"You ha-- mpphh." Phoenix says as Kate pulls his him into a tight hug. "You always know what to say huh buddy." She says with a chuckle. "I'm still gonna go talk to him though. He is really cute." She says.

"Of course you are." Phoenix sighs.
