This Is It The Apocalypse

Chapter 10-Something New..

KALLIE'S POV

After getting the okay from Rick I began moving my medical supplies into the little blue house across the street that Lori, Carl, & Rick stayed in. I packed in 15-20 boxes piling them up into the room and began taking thing out, organizing them to my liking. After finished up I walked outside to find Megan to show her, I hadn't mentioned a word about it to nobody but Rick. I found Megan and took her to see the new infirmary, I was sure she was going to love it making her feel like a nurse again. She walked in and her eyes widen "Oh my god I love it I get to feel like i'm working again getting to take care of people" she said. "I know it still needs a couple more things, like a emergency gurney, IV poles and another bed but i'll find them next time we go on a run" I told her.

"Kallie, Hold Up" Rick said running towards me "You and Me are going on a supply run tomorrow, okay " he asked "Yeah that sounds good to me, are we leaving after breakfast?" I asked him "Yea that will work" He replied. I walked back to the house went up stairs gathering up my dirty laundry, carrying them out to a wash tub to wash my clothes. After I finished up it was time to make dinner for everybody so I began cooking up some deer chili after everybody scarfed down dinner Megan offered to washed the dishes. So I decided that since they got the gas line fixed I could finally have a hot shower because the gas powers the hot water tank I was so thankful. As I stepped under the hot water, A sensation went over me it had been longer than 3 months since I had felt hot water beating down on my bare skin. It felt amazing and gave me such a sense of happiness, It has always been the little things in life that bring you joy and this is one of those little things that can just pick up your spirits and make things just a little better in times like these.

After my shower I crawled over in my bed, grabbing the book I was reading Behind Closed Doors I hadn't gotten very far in yet but it appeared to be a decent read. After reading for a while I put it down and was going to try to sleep, but I could hear movement down stairs so I decided to go see who was awake. It was Rick, "Guessing you can't sleep" I said "Yeah since everything happen on the farm, I don't sleep that great anymore worrying something else will happen" He said. "I know what you mean I struggle with it to I constantly am worried something or someone will get in and we wouldn't have a fighting chance, but seeing what you did yesterday to save me from that man I feel a little safer knowing you will do anything to keep me safe" I told him. "I don't want you to die, I don't want anybody else to die but your different your a big asset to the group, you cook, clean can hunt and your a nurse you know how to save people and your just a very sweet woman" he told me.

We stayed on the couch all night just talking we must have fell asleep at some point since that when I open my eyes I was laying on the couch with my head on Rick's lap with his arm over my stomach. I got up and walked into the kitchen and grabbed a bowl and threw some dry cereal in it and grabbed a bottle of water and went and sat back down on the couch. I finished up eating and walked out onto the porch to smoke, I looked over to the other house and see Carol sitting on the porch so I walked over to talk with her. "Morning" I said "Good Morning" she replied    "I wasn't expecting anybody to be up this early yet" she said taking a sip of her coffee   "Rick & I are going on a run this morning" I told her "How are you holding up" I asked  "Not Well, losing my daughter is the worst pain I have ever felt, even though my husband beat the shit out of mentally and physically ever day for years, nothing is as bad as this" she replied. "I hope you find some comfort, I know Rick is also struggling with losing Lori & Carl too" I told her. "Talking to Daryl brings me comfort he understands he dealt with being abuse too and losing Merle, if I couldn't talk to him I would be lost" she told me.

I walked back to the house to see that Rick had woken up, and was having some breakfast before we head out. I walked up stairs to get out of my pajamas and throw on some different clothes, I tried to stay quite while getting ready as Megan was still sleeping in the bed across from mine. I threw on a tank top on and threw my jacket on over top of it and slid on some jeans and threw my hair up into a sloppy bun grabbed by boots from under the bed and headed down stairs. "Ready to go" I asked Rick "Yea the truck is gassed up and ready to go" He said. I sat down on the couch and laced up my boots making sure they where good and tight "Let's Go" I said.

"Where we going today" I asked "Where going the next couple towns over to see what they got to offer us" he said as we pulled out of the gates. We jumped up on the main road, heading north of the community we passed a big green sign about a mile down form our town that read Dalton Next Left. Rick pulled down into the little town we pulled up to what used to be a little mom and pop store it was just a little tan building sitting off the side of the road. We pulled in and see 6 walkers just dragging threw the grass coming towards the truck, We jump out Rick takes out the first 2 and I grabbed the next ones jamming my knife down into their skulls making them fall to the ground. We take out the last 2 and walk towards the doors of the little store the closer we get we can smell something awful smelling but not the normal smell of rotting flesh of the apocalypse this was much worse. As Rick opens the door I cover him, but as soon as that door opens the smell hits us much harder we walk in it looks like it had been raided there wasn't much left from the looks of it. We begin walking toward the back of the store and the smell just keeps getting worse, we open a big door that was a walk in freezer and we immediately slam it back. That was the smell of rotting freezer food mixed with the walker that was in there with it. We walked around the store and found some canned food and some bottles of water, I walked over behind the counter to see if they had any cigarettes I began looking threw drawers and I felt something grab my leg so I let out a scream. It was a walker trying to sink it's rotting teeth into me, Rick ran up and swung his ax hitting it releasing its grip from around my leg. I walk back around and continue searching around for anything we can use at home "I think we got everything we can get from here" I told Rick. We head out of the store hopping into the truck, we pulled out of the parking lot and continued to drive down the road a ways. Everything is just so ugly now a days I thought to myself, I see a gas station up ahead "Pull in there would ya" I said. We get out and look around for people or walkers, "All Clear" Rick said. We walked up to the doors looking threw the glass there was one walker inside we open the door and it walks around to us and Rick takes it out. I grabbed bags from out behind the counter, and we began loading up everything we could grab everything from chocolate to advil "Don't leave anything" Rick told me. 'Finally" I said "What" Rick asked "A place that hadn't been raided of booze and cigarettes" I said while pulling every pack and carton off the shelves shoving them into bags. We continued gathering until we cleared it out completely we tossed all the bags into the truck, It was pretty full "Are we continuing on or are we heading home for the day" I asked. "We can head home for the day we already have a truck full" Rick said hopping back up on the main road headed home. "Just curious why did you want me to come with you, not that I minded just wondering" I asked him "I like spending time with you, when i'm around you it's a different feeling, then when anybody else is around" he said. "I like spending time with you too" I said as I sat back and began looking out the truck window when I felt a something on my leg, I look over to see that Rick had put his hand on my leg.

We pulled into the gates of home and began unloading everything into the front doors of the pantry so Carol and Maggie could separate it and put it were it needs to be. "It's been a long day" I said "I'm going to go up stairs for a little while let me know when dinner is ready" I told Maggie as I walked out the door from the pantry. I went up to my room and laid in the bed and fell asleep for a couple hours cause I woke up to Maggie shaking me, telling me to wake up to eat dinner. I walked down stair and ate dinner "I'm still pretty tired after today i'm going to go back to bed i'll see you all in the morning" I said walking back up the stairs to my room.
