Pitch black. All I can hear is the ringing in my ears and the sound of metal against metal. I slowly open my eyes, lifting my cheek from the cool metal floor. Words swirl in my brain, draining from me, I try and reach out for something, one memory would mean the world, all I can remember is the echo of my name. Flora. My legs wobble as I struggle to get on my feet, leaning up against a crate, I look upwards, a peep of light spills through the top of the trapdoors, my surroundings move towards one giant metallic lid, where most of the light shines through. I scoot behind the crate, hugging my knees tightly to my chest, fear paralyzing my body. The metal cage comes to a screeching stop, but I lock in my position. I hear muffled sounds, laughs, footsteps, screeches, light poors in, I should my eyes with arm, wrapping my legs to my body with the other and let out a small whimper. "Okay, greenie boy, where are ya little shucker." A boy cooes.
I scoot farther back crate. "Just go get 'em, Gally, no shuckin' around with the boy." A hear a voice scold. Confused at their wordplay, I wrap myself in the smallest ball possible. A hear chuckles and harsh comments like "Did little greenie boy klunk his pants?" And "Common little shank, dont be afraid." All the voices were interuppted by one extremely loud voice. "Slim it! Gally I said go get him, shank!" A small whimper escapes my throat. The ground shakes below me and echoes as the boy's feet land hard into the floor I lay onto. "Here greenie boy, come on out ya shank." The boy chuckles. "Go away!" I yell. The crowd erupts in laughs. The guy could still not see me, I got a glance of his face, he had bushy eyebrows and high cheek bones, he had blonde air and wore a smirk on his face. "Awww, cmon shuckface, why dontcha come on out so we can all be friends?" The boy cooes.
"Be friends my butt." I mumble myself. Thankfully he didn't hear me. His footsteps click and echo on the cool stone floor, checking behind each dark corner and each wooden crate. He inches toward me, checking behind the crate next to mine. Than he peeks over the corner just to see a little bit of my leg, he jerks me out into the light yelling "Found 'em!"My long brown hair flies around into my face as boys give me greedy looks, the crowd erupts in gasps and whispers, some are yelling things like. "It's a girl!" And "I got dibs!" And "No way!" And "Get your hair outta your face so we can see how pretty you are." I brushed my hair behind my ears, looking at the crowd. One voice screams "Slim it! If any one touches her I swear you'll be sleeping with the bloody greivers! Ya hear me?" The boy screams. I study the crowd, there are just boys. Great. No girls what so ever. Just great. The boy who screamed jumps in, grabbing me by shirt. "What the bloody hell are you doing here!" He yelled at me. The problem is, I didn't know. "I- I- I don't know.." I say, fighting back the tears. "Oh sure......" He rolls his eyes. "Newt! What the shuck are you doing!" Yells a voice to the dirty blonde gripping my shirt. The boy has shaggy brown hair, he wears a blue t- shirt long sleeved with a pocket on the left side of his chest. He has brown eyes that lock with mine, giving me a frantic look. "Shut your buggin' hole, Tommy." Newt spats, but then the boy named Gally speaks up. "Newt!" Newt sighs and mutters "Sorry, girlie, don't know what come over me." "Get outta here shanks!" A boy with dark skin yells, his hair is cut back and really short. He wears a tan shirt. He hops in front of me and grins. "Welcome to the glade, girlie." He says, a worried expression on his face, but he hides it pretty dang well. He reaches his hand out, I don't take it, I scoot myself up and give him an untrustful look, but he nods in understatement. "Newt, Gally, don't know what to say other than get your bloody butts to work." He snarls. His wordplay was ticking me off. "Listen, greenie." He says. "Don't call me that." I say. "That's not my name." He raises his eyebrows, then continues. "We've all been through the same thing. No memories and scared. But we've all been boys. I just want to get things strait." He explains to me every thing about the maze, how they have jobs here, how I'll get one soon, then he ended the conversation with "We have 3 rules here, 1st, so your part, nothing gets done unless we work together, 2nd, never harm another Glader, or I promise you will be banished, 3rd, never EVER go behind those walls unless your a runner, we can't have a bunch of untrained shake running around like crazy shucks." He says, I nod along, still relectunt to trust him. He leads me out to explore on my own, but what I see is no ordinary 'wall'.
Probably more than 200 ft up is stone, vines run up and down, corridors on each strip. I notice men running to a house in the middle, then all panting and sweating. I ignore everyone and wander toward the building.Hey people of wattpad! Hope you enjoyed my first chapter, and Once I get to 3- 5 views I'll update again today, but I will update daily!
