The two shrine spirits bowed. "Yes, Lady (Name)!" They called in unison, and hurried out after Tomoe.

You groaned in pain and collapsed back down onto the futon.

The poor futon had been slightly singed by fox-fire and stained with blood, but honestly it could have been made of nails and you still would not care.

A burning, itching sensation started on your stomach and you pulled away the bandages.

The cuts were worse than you thought, but at least they were scabbed over and closed, yet that made them even more unsettling to look at.

Four diagonal slashes; claw marks from one of the beasts you had encountered in the world over yonder. They were deep and leaked red. You were surprised you could even function through the pain, but decided that the burning from the fox-fire had somehow damaged the nerves and sent that whole area into shock.

Laying your head back down to let the peach pills work, you thought back to the past few days.
There were fuzzy parts of your memories, but you remembered being thrown out of the orphanage clearly.

"We don't need you here!"

"You'd be better off dead, (Name)!"

"A girl like you can never amount to anything."

"We can't afford to feed useless vermin like you."

"Go!"

You could still hear their voices, see their faces, and you clenched your eyes shut, shaking slightly.

They really....

You held up your arm, looking at your small, thin fingers.

...meant that.

You clenched your fist.

No. I don't care. I'm going to make myself a place where I belong. With Tomoe's help or not, I'm going to be a god worthy of her title.

You gritted your teeth.

I'll show them.
