"Class, we have yet another new student joining us today," Mr. Fujiori announced, sounding a bit bored. Tomoe stepped into the classroom, as if on cue, (which he probably was), and the class erupted into whispers and murmuring almost louder than they had been with Kurama's announcement only the day before.

You grew particularly irritated at the comment of the girl in front of you, who immediately started talking about confessing to him on Friday.

You don't even know him, girl.

Your desk was in the very, very back of the class, with empty desks for mostly your whole row, save for two girls on the opposite end, and you realized that Tomoe was likely to be put in one of the desks next to you.

Your attention went back to Tomoe as the currently human-looking yokai bowed respectfully to the class.

"Hello," he called, with a close-lipped, close-eyed smile that the girl in front of you immediately hissed was the cutest thing she'd ever seen. "I look forward to learning with you," Tomoe said, with a little too much cheer, and you rolled your eyes at the flushed faces of the girls.

"Yes, yes, very interesting," Mr. Fujiori said with the same tone he would have when talking about watching paint dry. "Sit there, in the back, next to (Last name)."

There were immediately murmurs of 'not fair', and you suppressed rolling your eyes again. What did they think would happen, every desk is full except for the two next to me.

You kept your eyes straight ahead as you heard him sit next to you, then turned your head when he was settled. "Hey," you said to him, turning your head. "I'm (Name). If you need any help with schoolwork and such, feel free to ask me." You smiled at him.
After all, you weren't supposed to know him yet, at least in the eyes of your classmates, which you felt on you.

Tomoe locked eyes with you, and you could practically hear his internal screaming, hidden behind his purple irises. You felt a bit bad, considering how he was immortal and such, even Mr. Fujiori must seem like an infant to him.

"Tomoe," he 'introduced'.

"Pleasure," you said shortly, and both of you turned your attention to the board.

++++

After about two minutes of listening to the lesson, Tomoe sighed and started randomly drawing squiggles in his notebook with a black gel pen, giving up on thinking about the material. You guessed that either he knew it, or just didn't care. Maybe both.

Now, you had a mission. Your gaze traveled to the familiar head of black hair, to the girl who always sat in the middle of the front of the class, eyes following Mr. Fujiori's every move, elbow propped up on the desk.

Her onyx black hair hung down to at least her waist, straight near her scalp but blending into wavy and finally curly on the bottom tips, and most of it was pushed behind her, on her back, save for one long, straight strand hanging in the front.
She had a rather cute, heart-shaped face, with big, shiny green eyes that lit up as they travelled back and forth, watching her teacher.

She seemed shy, innocent, and you sighed and rubbed your temples.

Why couldn't she have a crush on another student? Then it would be so easy, I could just tell him that she likes him, make him promise that he'd keep my telling him a secret, then he could do the confessing and everyone could be happy.
I mean, she's so sweet, and so cute, I doubt anyone could turn her down.

Well... Except for a teacher. It's illegal for him to accept, and Mr. Fujiori is such a harsh and straightforward man... He'd end up smashing her heart to pieces without even knowing it.

Even the school policy says that they can't even be friends...

This is Japan, after all. The schools are very strict about this sort of thing. Even a rumor can get a teacher fired.

Maybe Tomoe has come up with something.

You quickly scribbled  a note on your notebook. 'Do you have any new ideas about this matchmaking thing?' You wrote, and tilted your notebook slightly towards Tomoe. His eyes were wandering around the classroom, and when he caught eye of your notebook, he lazily scribbled 'No' next to one of his strange abstract doodles.

Well that didn't help.

Tomoe sighed quietly, and you glanced over as he started writing in neat, small script.

'I think you should just skip this one. Even Mr. Mikage got impossible matches sometimes."

You quickly but silently turned the page of your notebook, writing back.

'No.'

Tomoe moved his pen to a different section of the paper.

'Stubborn human.'

You drew a face sticking out its tongue on your paper, and Tomoe's 'nice new student' facade dropped for a second as he shot you an irritated look. You giggled quietly, but not quietly enough, and some of Tomoe's new fangirls around you shot glares your way.

"What's so funny, (Name)? I like to laugh." Mr. Fujiori called back to you, his 'demon hearing', as your classmates called it, striking again.

You giggled agin, unfazed, and your brain started working overtime, and you picked your opened packet up from your desk. "I just find it funny how Kelsey Timmerman traveled all the way to Columbia just to research where those coffee beans come from, when I know that there's a multitude of news reports and websites that could have gotten her much more information on the topic. I'll never really understand rich people," you said with a smile, and Mr. Fujiori only turned back to the board.
That was thoroughly just bullshit. Pure and unfiltered.

Crap, that was a bad excuse. Oh well. I'm not dead, or worse, have to go to detention, so I guess I'm all right though.

Tomoe smirked and scribbled down 'Was that you trying to sound smart?', and you resisted the urge to reach over and punch him in the shoulder.

'Shut up, former forest creature,' you wrote, adding in a frowny face for good measure.

Then you slammed your notebook shut, still somehow quietly, and waited for class to end.
