Tomoe let out a sound that seemed more like the growl of a feral animal than anything something with a human voice could make, and Mizuki laughed.

"Were you the one who sent us into the netherworld? I should have known."

Tomoe's eyes narrowed. "I was not."

Mizuki tilted his head. "Eeh~? Then how did we-"

"I won't repeat this again, hand over the girl. I'm not in a good mood right now, so I suggest you don't test me."

Mizuki laughed again, a childish, cheerful laugh that ended in a giggle.

"Why would I do that? We're going to have to learn to share, after all~..."

Tomoe was so irritated that his gaze could have melted steel.

"Is-"

Mizuki cut him off. "After all, we should be friends, we've got so much in common. Both have white hair, both have some sort of supernatural power, both familiars to (Name)."

"Like hell!" Tomoe replied, and you sighed.

"Mizuki, step away from me and close your mouth."

Mizuki moved almost robotically, an ahegao-like expression on his face, and you resisted the urge to order him to slap himself, crossing the road to stand in front of the fox yokai.

"Tomoe, please calm down."

It wasn't much of an order, and your tone was so kind you surprised yourself. Tomoe's blue flames went out.

Your eyebrow twitched and you pointed over to Mizuki.

"This little snake is somehow my familiar. I'm sorry, but he's surprisingly strong for a skinny boy, and one thing lead to another. When I pushed away from him, we somehow fell into the..."
You remembered the word Mizuki had used to describe the world over yonder.
"...netherworld, and then back here."

Tomoe's arm reignited with blue flames, and he outstretched his hand, a column of fire burned everything within a ten foot radius of Mizuki.

He grinned, a vein popping out on his forehead. "He can't be your familiar if he's dead."
