"Hey", a voice jolted me out out of my thoughts. I looked up to find Aidan leaning against my locker, a smirk plastered on his face, as he looked at my surprised face.

"Oh! I didn't see you there. Sorry"

He nodded, and then cracked a slight smirk, "So ready for today?"

"What's today?", I cocked a brow, looking at him expectedly.

"Today, my dear Grace, is the first day, its Day One, the beginning of our 29 days together."

"You ready?", he asked again.

I nodded, offering him a small smile.

It felt great. The feeling was just amazing, it gave me a reason to hope about. It gave a reason to look forward to a new day, when I had always dreaded waking up, in the past.

But now that I knew that there was someone that wants to make my days better, wants to give me a reason to live for, it felt like I was really a human, not someone's slave.

"So let's get to class, shall we?"

I nodded once again, and he laughed.

"Are you mute?", he asked in a dead serious voice.

Staring at him with a confused expression I quietly mumbled a no.

"Then why don't you open that pretty mouth of yours and talk?"

Blushing at his choice of words I replied, " Well, I don't really know how this thing works. I'm still trying to figure it out."

"What thing?", Aidan furrowed his brows, an expectant expression on his face.

"Um, you know, having friends and stuff..."

"You've never had friends before?"

"No...."

Suddenly I was engulfed in a bear hug. All the air was knocked out of my lungs, as Aidan crushed me to his chest.

I flayed my arms around, pounding his back with my fists.

"Let me go, you giant monster! ", I cried.

Laughing,  he pulled me away from him. Still holding me in his arms, he looked at me with a expression that scared me. It was one of pity. I hated being pitied.

"I'm so sorry", Aidan breathed as he looked down at me.

"What for?"

"For everything. For not being there when you most needed it."

"Aidan, its fine."

"It's not. Don't ruin the moment."

"What moment?", I joked," where I see the big, bad, bad boy going all softie?"

"God, don't say that. I don't want to ruin my image.", he groaned making me giggle. "Take advantage of it as long as you can. You won't be seeing a lot of it."

"Oh, don't worry. I will.", grinning I pulled away from him, as I dragged him to class with me.

I giggled hysterically as Aidan and I gossiped about how Rebecca had asked him out and he had bluntly rejected her.

It was currently lunch period and Aidan and I were sitting outside in the sun, enjoying the warmth.

We were sitting at the back of the Building A of our school. There was a huge tree back there. No one visited this part of the school.
I usually sat here for lunch.

"Hey, Grace?", Aidan interrupted.

I raised a brow at him. "Yeah?"

"Day One- Reason One to live- Friendship."

I smiled at him, just getting what he was indicating.

"Promise to be there for me?", I asked him holding out my right palm.

Aidan placed his palm in mine. "Forever & Always.", he whispered.
