“I don’t understand. Why are you an assassin?” I stare in disbelief at my sister. She walks toward me.
“There are a lot of things you don’t know,” Talia sits down at the edge of the bed.
“What do you mean?” I ask confused.
“It’s not time for you to know,” She simply responds.
“Then answer this why did you try to kill me?” I ask her hesitantly.
“I was doing my job,” She pushes her long sleeve up. She stares at a mark on her arm. She shows me the mark. It was a brand that assassins were branded with. It was a shinigami holding a scythe. In the middle of the shinigami there was a number. It was the number 240. “This is my contract to be an assassin for the King.”
“Are you here to kill me?” I ask nervously. She turns and looks at me. Her hair covered half her face.
“Not anymore that task was removed. I don’t have to kill you anymore,” she responds. It didn’t seem to bug her that she almost killed me her sister.
“Were you even hesitant when you tried to kill me?” I look at her. She doesn’t flinch or looks affected whatsoever with my question.
“I was trained to ignore my feelings. To be a killing machine that can fight in any circumstances,” Her expression turns sad for a second before turning stoic. “Are you okay?”
“How can I be okay? I’m still trying to accept the fact that you tried to kill me. You’re my sister. I still can’t believe you would try and kill your own family,” I felt my body start to shake.
“I’m sorry,” Talia looks away from me. “If I had the option I wouldn’t have tried to kill you.”
I don’t respond. I don’t know what to do. Should I forgive her or not? I don’t know. I’m so confused. Why would she become an assassin? I just couldn’t understand. What was I supposed to do?
Asher’s POV
We were waiting outside of the house. We had followed a pair of workers into the house the King was staying in which happened to be underground. Night immediately went inside to try and talk to the King, but after a few minutes he was brought back outside unsuccessful.
“We are going to have to break her out,” Elis states.
“No! That plan wouldn’t work. We would be killed in an instant,” Night yells.
“Then what do you propose we do? We can’t just sit back and do nothing,” Elis snaps.
“First thing is first we should probably go somewhere else,” Night states calmly. Why does he sound calm? Wasn’t he freaking out just a few minutes ago?
“We shouldn’t waste any more time. If we just wait around who knows what will happen to Cantalia,” Elis yells. I grab his arm and drag him away from the house. We went back up to the maze. Carefully so we wouldn’t attract any enemies.
“If we don’t get away from this house we won’t be able to talk about how we’re going to save her. Also who knows what could happen,” I tried to calm him down.
“We really need to save her,” Elis looks down.
“We know but we can’t just rush in their without a plan,” I state as I let him go.
“Shouldn’t we wait until Anally and Nathanial come back?” Laru asks. I noticed how she left out Deroc’s and Judas's names.
“No, that could take weeks,” Elis rejects.
