Prologue:

“There are times

when I feel your presence

at my side

There are times

when I hear you say

it will be alright

There are times

when I see

your face in a crowd

and I turn around

There are times

when I miss you

and my heart begins to ache

and I smile through the pain

But then there are times

when I realize

this is just the way

it has to be

there’s no you and me

There are times when

I feel strong

and I know that I

can finally move on

There are times when

my mind is at ease

and I can enjoy life

and all it can bring

There are times when

I miss you

and times when I’m okay

it’s getting better everyday

No matter how much time

there is in this life

I’ll think of you

from time to time

and remember you with a smile”

Danny writes as tears flow down her cheeks. She is sitting by the window side looking out in the dark, watching the pale, old moon—the old memories flashing through her mind. Her heart is aching.  She has no way to feel better when she misses David. With the sadness aching her so much, she writes him letters, but ends up throwing them away.

Crawling to the study table by the door side in the dark wiping off her endless amount of tears, she stands grabbing the table, pulls out the chair, and opens the drawer on the right side of her. She pulls out a single sheet of paper—a very old paper that has been torn on the edge.

With tears still falling from her cheeks, she opens the folded paper. Stretching her right hand in front of her, she turns on the study table light.

“Don’t ever give up on

What’s in your heart

Don’t ever let go of

What it is you believe in

Don’t ever say the road is too tough

And that it’s better to quit

Don’t ever think

That you don’t matter

Because you’re important to me

Don’t ever let anyone tell you

That you can’t follow your dreams

Don’t ever think that the world

Doesn’t need someone like you

You’ve touched my heart and my life

Just by being who you are

And the things you do.

There’s a magic in you

That no other could possess.

A quality, warmth, a sparkle that will carry you

Through life’s tests

There’s a magic in you

That makes you special to me.”

She reads and cries even more. Her eyes became red and her face has become wet with the tears. Her dark mascara has cascaded down her cheeks, like waterfalls. She rests her head down against the smooth table, thinking about the old memories, as she drifts off to sleep.
