Chapter 2
I stood there in silence for a few seconds.
"Amelia?" asked Elm.
"Yeah. I'll be there as soon as I can," I said before ending the call. I looked around for the walking path for those who weren't trainers and after finding the sign ran down the path towards Cherrygrove. Chikorita ran alongside me, sensing the seriousness of the situation at hand. But after a few minutes I had to pick him up as he couldn't keep up with me anymore. But not long after picking him up I arrived in Cherrygrove, out of breath. I stopped by the pokemon center for a few minutes so chikorita could have a quick checkup before getting back on the road towards New Bark. I made my way out of the pokemon center and began going towards the outskirts of town. It took a few minutes, but I eventually made it out of Cherrygrove. After a few seconds I began to get on the move again, speeding onto the path of route 29. But as I was rushing I heard a voice call to me.
"Hey! You got a pokemon from the lab didn't you?" a voice asked and I turned to see a boy with dark red hair and narrowed eyes looking at me. I nodded about to get away when he said something that caught my attention.
"I got one there as well. Not that long ago either," he told me and then I turned all the way around, putting my hand onto the pokeball in my bag. I was ready to fight for the pokemon if needed. It had to get back to the lab. The second I turned around though I saw something in his eyes and I felt like I recognized him from somewhere.
"So, you want to test them out... see who has the better starter?" he asked and I saw the pokeball in his hand. I pulled chikorita's pokeball out of my bag, holding it tightly.
"I will not let you get away with that pokemon. It needs to be with a trainer that's worthy of it and has worked hard to be eligible for being a trainer," I stated. "That pokemon will be coming back with me." My eyes narrowed before I sent out chikorita. He smirked and once he sent out his pokemon I knew why. The flash of light from the pokeball faded to reveal the fire pokemon from the lab, cyndaquil. I took a deep breath and could feel chikorita's fear, but also his determination to get back his friend.
"Chikorita tackle!" I cried as the boy ordered his pokemon to use tackle. The two pokemon raced towards each other and soon collided leaving both of them a bit hurt.
"Tackle, once more!" I called.
"Cyndaquil leer!" ordered the boy. I watched chikorita charge at his old friend and just as chikorita hit it the cyndaquil's back bursted with flames, making chikorita cower.
"Now tackle!" called the boy, making use of the fear.
"Chikorita, tackle it! It can't keep it's flames for very long!" I cried. Chikorita still looked scared as the fiery pokemon charged at him but in the last few seconds he headbutted the fire mouse pokemon. Cyndaquil flew backwards a few feet.
"Chikorita, tackle it one more time!" I called and chikorita nodded charging toward it as the boy called for it to use tackle. The fire types flames burned bright as it charged back at us, but it had sustained too much damage. Chikorita hit it with enough force for it to fly back another few feet and fall, knocked out. I began walking over to the small, fire mouse pokemon. But before I could the boy ran in my way and scooped it up.
"I won the battle. That pokemon is coming back with me," I said, walking closer to him before he pushed me back.
"We never made any deal of that kind," he said, turning and walking away. "Also, they're still looking for you and maybe someone won't tell them where you are if the police don't know about this incident." My blood ran cold as I looked up at him, remembering instantly who it was.
"Sil-" I called, but stopped as I looked down at my pokemon, who was leaning against my leg. He looked at me with sadness in his eyes. I looked up at the figure getting further and further away as I picked up chikorita and turned away, knowing there was nothing I could've done.
After making another stop at the pokemon center I walked back in silence debating on what to say to Elm. I reached New Bark town in little to no time compared to earlier in the day. My hand touched the handle of the door as I took a breath and walked inside. Elm was busy talking to a policeman, describing the situation before looking up to me. I walked over to them, chikorita in my arms.
"Amelia, right?" asked the policeman and I nodded, biting my lip as the fight went on in my head.
"Did you happen to run into the person who did this on your way here?" he asked, looking me in the eyes with a stern look. I was tempted to look away, but knew that would just make me seem guilty.
"No, sir. I didn't run into anyone on the way here," I answered, my voice calm and clear. He nodded, his eyes narrowed, before turning back to Elm.
"I'll try to ask anyone in town to get any information. Thank you for the information Mr. Elm. We'll try our best to get back the stolen pokemon," he assured Professor Elm. Professor Elm thanked him before the man left. I glanced down before abruptly giving him the pokemon egg and going to my room without a word. But I could feel his eyes on me the entire time I walked away and I felt as if a weight had been put on my shoulders. I knew that I had just lost a little bit of his trust..
