Chapter 4

I woke up early the next morning to only Violet, Clover, and Dianthus being awake. It was still a bit dark out. I learned how heavy of a sleeper Begonia was after trying to wake him multiple times throughout the morning as I got ready. But it wasn't until the sun peaked out from behind the hills that Begonia finally awoke.

"Morning sleepy," I said to him as I pulled the laces of my tennis shoes tighter. He looked around sleepily for a few seconds before starting to move, flying over to Dianthus. I smiled watching my two teams of pokemon talk to each other as I pulled on a light jacket and swung my bag over my shoulder. The pokemon's faces were lit up as they talked to one another and it made me smile. It was almost as if it was destiny for them to be together. I pulled my dirty-blond hair into a ponytail and put on a plain colored cap before looking to my pokemon.

"Okay. Guys, it's time to head out to get some new friends and get to the next town," I told them. They hurried after me as I walked out the door and down the hall. As Clover and Violet ran down the hall, loudly I looked at Begonia who was flying beside me.

"Hey, Begonia. Could you please go tell those two to quiet down? There are still people sleeping and I don't want to yell at them, waking even more people," I asked and Begonia nodded before racing to catch up with the two pokemon. He stopped them in their tracks before explaining to them the situation. The two pokemon looked back at me sheepishly as I caught up with the group of them, Dianthus in my arms. I set down Dianthus with the rest of them as we arrived in the pokemon center lobby. I returned my room key before leaving and going out onto route 30. Our group of five made it through the route rather quickly and soon enough were on route 31.

"A new encounter," I remembered with a smile before turning to Begonia. "Begonia, can you look around from the sky for a partner?" Begonia nodded before he gave his wings a hard flap and soaring into the sky. It didn't take very long before I heard Begonia's call and I ran over to where he was. I came to a stop where Begonia flew over to me and before me was a pidgey. She was resting on a stump and looking off in the distance before I walked in. Then, she turned her head my direction. I took a pokeball from my bag and held it in my hand. The pidgey took a few flaps up in the air, immediately getting the message, and I sent Violet forward.

"Violet, tackle!" I called and the mouse nodded before jumping onto the stump and slamming into the pidgey with the top of her head before it could even react. The pidgey cooed before getting up slowly. It was already weak. I slowly walked up to it and knelt before the small bird pokemon. She looked up at me.

"Sorry for attacking you so suddenly. I didn't realize that you were already a bit weakened," I apologized and she nodded. "Would you like to come with me? I'd like to go face all of the gyms and I think it'd be good to have as many pokemon as possible. I also think you'd be a nice addition to the team." I set down the pokeball and got up, taking a few steps back to watch. We all watched as the small bird pokemon thought for a few seconds and said goodbye to her home before tapping the button on the pokeball to get captured. After a few seconds I heard the click and picked up her pokeball. A picture of a field that I used to play in as a kid came to mind as I picked it up and I knew exactly what name to give her.

"Fern, come on out," I whispered watching as a white light enveloped the bird pokemon and she flapped her wings a few times. With that we walked off into the Dark Cave and it didn't take long until a pokemon threw a small pebble at my feet when I got close. I pulled out my flashlight from my bag and shined my light around the cave. There wasn't anything there. Starange. I thought, before seeing another pebble. Fern flew off my shoulder and immediately toward a brown rock that sat on the ground. I knelt beside her and glanced at the stone, about to ask Fern what was up. Then, I rock moved. Arms came out of the sides and it pushed itself up off the ground.
