Chapter 5
"Of course," I whispered. "They want to use me just like they use everyone else. But that wasn't the only reason I left..." Silver just nodded before turning away. He knew the reason I left and was the last person I told before I escaped them.
"But just try to be careful. I don't want them getting you and me having to clean up after you," he told me before walking away. I just gave a silent 'okay' before he left me and Clover alone. I sighed before looking at Clover, worn. He looked up at me with worry.
"I know. I know. I'll be okay," I reassured. "Let's just get on to training. We need to be ready for the gym fight." Clover held that look of worry before giving me a small cheer, making me smile ever so slightly. After healing at the pokemon center I went down to route 32 with the gang. But I only got so far before someone stopped me telling me that I needed to go face the gym before I could go on. So, I just stuck to the small area I had. But as I walked back to the tall grass a vine shot out and grabbed hold of Fern's leg, pulling her down.
"Fern," I cried, grabbing hold of her and pulling her back to reveal a bellsprout out of the tall grass. Once it was revealed the bellsprout let go and I let Fern fly again.
"Fern, tackle!" I called and she quickly dove for her opponent. She hit it once before it once again grabbed hold of her leg and slammed her to the ground.
"One more tackle!" I called to her as she slowly got up and spread her wings and flew back into the sky. Then, she dove once more, hitting it just enough for it to be weakened. The pokemon tottered back and forth, trying to keep its balance as I searched my bag.
"Shoot. I know I had one in here earlier," I whispered, looking through my bag to no avail. My bag was empty of pokeballs.
"Darn," I whispered. "Fern, take it out with tackle!" Fern looked at me curiously before going at the bellsprout again, knocking it back a few feet and taking it out. A missed encounter. I thought. Ever since a few years ago there was law of only one pokemon capture per area. This was just so there weren't people just hording pokemon or for a certain pokemon to not go extinct. Afterwards we went on to training. It went pretty smoothly. I trained with Fern and Alder first, switching between the two of them in battle just so they both would train equally. But as soon as Alder learned rock throw he became quite the force to be reckoned with. The only pokemon she had to go in a rescue him was the bellsprout. But Fern had to get help from him when a mareep came around to fight. Just like the rest of my team these two were natural partners, always looking out for each other. Dianthus and Begonia had an easy training session. After they swept the floor at Sprout tower there wasn't much I needed to do with them. But doubted I'd be using them anyway as the gym was a flying type gym. Then, I had to train up Clover and Violet. It seemed that every few pokemon I had to switch one out for the other, but I could see their bond just growing as they worked together. But once the training was over I remembered hearing from Elm there were some ruins nearby. So, we headed on over with Violet and Clover running ahead of the rest of the group.
"Guys, wait up!" I called as the two pokemon ran on into one of the ruin's rooms. But once I got into the room they had gotten into the two pokemon were gone. I looked around the large room and the two pokemon were nowhere to be seen. Then, I walked up to the platform that was on the ground. It looked like a puzzle. There were small plates and immediately I realized what pokemon it was going to form. I had seen this pokemon in some of Elm's books. It was kabuto. I slowly moved the pieces into place and stood up before the picture glowed a bright light. Almost immediately the floor disappeared from under me and I was falling. I grabbed Dianthus' pokeball and threw it.
"Dianthus' confusion!" I called and just as I was about to crash into the floor below Dianthus stopped me and set me on the ground. I sighed before looking around then I saw the strange pokemon I had only seen a few times, the unown. There were a group of them looking at me.
"Do you know where my pokemon are, chikorita and rattata?" I asked. The pokemon paused for a second before forming into two words.
"Follow us," I whispered before looking at my pokemon and then chasing after the group of unown. We ran down a few corridors and had to weave through the pillars until we came to a small room. There my two pokemon were playing, just as they normally would've been.
"Thank goodness," I said, walking over to them. They looked over at me.
"What was up with you running away like that? You two know that it isn't safe to run away without one of the others there to help you. You could've gotten hurt," I lectured before seeing their faces. They were about to cry. I sighed before scooping them up into my arms and turning to the alphabet-shaped pokemon.
"Thank you," I told them and the pokemon nodded before forming into the words 'you're welcome'. I smiled and just as I turned away Clover cried and I turned around. The unown had formed two more words that sent a chill down my spine. They read 'TRUST NO ONE'. I nodded solemnly before quickly leaving the ruins. But as I walked out it was already dark.
"It felt like we were only in there a few minutes. But I guess it was longer," I whispered, looking up at the sky with a look of worry. Violet poked me and I smiled at her.
"I know. I'm letting all of this get to me. Well, we should get back to the pokemon center and get some rest for the battle tomorrow. You never know what'll happen," I told them before we headed on back to the pokemon center. After getting a room and everyone falling asleep I set my bag on the bed, only for it to fall dropping a note on the floor. The note from Oak. I thought as I picked it up. It was just a fold sheet of paper. I slid down the window and onto the floor before opening the sheet of paper.
Amelia,
I've heard from Elm that you've started your journey with a chikorita. That is wonderful. I know you are different from your family, but I still don't know how much I can trust you. You are a good person and I know that just from Elm's letters or emails. But I also know that you have the same traits as some of them. Just remember all that you hated about your previous life and try to make the right decisions. Don't follow the path of your parents and I'm sure we'll meet again in a better circumstance than before.
Sincerely,
Professor Oak
He'll never trust me. That's just the way it is. It's just because of my origins and if I wasn't from that place it'd be a different story. I was of them and now I'm not. But if they are in Azalea town what'll I do? I can't go in there or they'll take me back again. But I can't not go there either. I thought, my brows furrowing. I squeezed the paper in my hand before slipping it back in my bag. I'll figure something out. Right now I need to focus on tomorrow's gym battle. I thought before sliding into bed and falling asleep...
