Chapter 6
I woke up the next morning, refreshed and ready for the battle that was going to happen very soon. Over the course of the next ten to twenty minutes of getting ready I woke everyone up. Begonia, being the heavy sleeper he is, took the longest to wake up. But soon enough he too was up and ready. I tied my shoelaces and pulled back my hair before heading out of the pokemon center with the group of six, thanking nurse Joy on the way out. As we walked towards the gym I looked over at my team, thinking of who would be best for today, but I soon realized that there was no contest. Alder and Fern were the safest choice for this gym by far. The others had someone with them who was weak to the flying types.
"Okay," I whispered as we came up to the doors of the gym. I took a deep breath before putting my hand on the door and walking in. The rest of us rose the platform up while Begonia, Fern, and Dianthus flew up to the top where the beams were. Once at the top I looked at the beams before me and that's when a small reflective thing caught my eye and I bent down to tap on the almost invisible glass floor that went around the beams. I shook my head, deciding that battling those trainers would be the best thing for me. So, I carefully put one foot on the beam and then the other in front, slowly and wobbly making my way to the first trainer. Once I got there he was smirking, as he watched me slowly make my way over.
"You seemed pretty off balance there. But it's that way with everyone who comes in. With how much you struggled with making it over here I won't have any trouble taking you out," he boasted. "The name's Abe by the way." I narrowed my eyes before looking at Alder. He nodded, meeting my gaze. He grabbed a pokeball from his pocket before looking at me.
"Okay, Abe. Let's get this battle started. Go Alder!" I called and I watched as he slowly made his way over and past me.
"I see. A rock type, predictable," he said before tossing a pokeball. "Go Pierce!" I watched as soon enough a spearow was flying high in the sky, circling around us.
"Alder, use rock throw!" I called.
"Pierce, use fury attack!" called Abe. I watched as Alder slowly began forming his rock only to be dove upon by the spearow, being his hard my it's beak, flinching ever so slightly.
"You can do this Alder," I whispered, watching as the spearow dove and struck again. Then, the spearow circled a little before diving in for the final hit. But Alder's rock was already ready.
"Alder, throw the rock just as it come close!" I called and Alder nodded as the bird dove closer. But before Abe could tell his pokemon to stop the rock slammed into his bird pokemon in the last second, taking it out. But just before it fell off the ledge, Alder grabbed it and carried it over to Abe.
"Thanks," said Abe before looking up at me. "You're stronger than I thought. I shouldn't have underestimated you. There's one more trainer to go through before you can go against Falkner."
"Thank you. That was a good match," I agreed before going onto the next trainer with Alder. But that one went down just as easily as the first. Both of trainer's Pidgey were destroyed by Fern and Alder's combinations. Then, I was standing before Falkner. He turned around with a stern face.
"I'm guessing you're a challenger," he said and I nodded, Alder sitting beside me. Falkner looked at the rock pokemon and nodded.
"I see. I'll accept your challenge. My Dad's bird pokemon will be your downfall," he said, walking up to the battlefield.
"We can do this Alder," I whispered and Alder nodded.
"Okay. If you're ready. Go Sharqi!" he called, throwing the pokeball up into the air. Then, a pidgey was soon flying aboves us, gliding across the gym's space.
"Let's get this started. Sharqi, tackle!" called Falkner.
"Alder, rock throw!" I called. Then, in a second I watched as the small bird dove down for the attack only to get smashed into by a rock and fall to the ground fainted.
"That was sure quick," said Falkner, returning his pidgey. "But you won't have as easy of a time with this one. Go Kaver!" Then, he tossed the pokeball up in the air and before us was a very large bird and I could already tell that this one was a lot stronger than the first bird we fought. It was pidgeotto.
"Kaver, gust!" called Falkner.
"Alder use rock throw!" I called. In seconds I watched as the large bird flapped its wings, stirring up a large wind that held back Alder from throwing his already formed rock. Then, seconds later the rock went flying hitting the bird in the center as it flew through the air. The pidgeotto was slightly damaged, but still continued to fly, even in pain.
"Again!" both Falkner and I called. Once again the pidgeotto stopped and I had to brace myself as the large gust of wind came at us once again. Alder threw his rock once more.
"Kaver, up!" called Falkner and at the last second the bird soared upward, dodging the rock entirely.
"Now, roost!" called Falkner. The bird soared for a few seconds before coming to rest of the many perches that were scattered throughout the gym.
"Hit it while it's distracted!" I called to Alder. Alder nodded, quickly forming a rock.
"Kaver, fly away!" called Falkner, but just as it soared the rock hit its left wing, making its flight a bit more unstable.
"One more!" I called to Alder. I watched as the rock was thrown. The pidgeotto tried with all its might to gust the rock to pieces, but it was an inevitable fate as the rock hit its right wing hard. The pidgeotto fell to the ground, fainted. Falkner walked up to his pidgeotto and knelt beside it.
"My dad's bird pokemon," he whispered before returning it to its pokeball. Then, he turned and walked up to Alder and I.
"Thanks Alder. Great job," I told him before returning him to his pokeball. Then, I looked up at Falkner.
"Nice job. I can see the bond between you and your pokemon. This is the proof that you won at the Violet City gym. It's the first of many that you will get," he reminded me before handing me a badge. I held the badge in my hand and looked at it for a few seconds before closing my hand around it and looking up at Falkner.
"Thank you," I said with a smile. He just nodded with a smile and after that I was on my way out. I made my way to the next pokemon center that was near the Union Cave just to save soome time. It was pretty dark by the time I reached there. But before I got inside the center a man walked up to me.
"Hello Miss. Would you like a slowpoketail? It'll be only 1 million pokedollars" he asked, offering a plate to me. I looked at the dish, biting my lip to keep myself from giving a look of disgust, before answering.
"N-No thank you sir. But thanks for offering," I stuttered before going inside. I sighed once I got inside before giving my pokemon to Nurse Joy and waiting. Once everyone was done getting a checkup I went outside and sat down, letting everyone out. Then, I sat down on the grass and let them play for a little bit before calling them together.
"Hey guys. Thanks for the help today. I know we have just started and we only have one out of the eight needed, but I'm happy with the work you've done so far. I know that not all of you have had your time to shine yet, but we're going to have a rough journey ahead. So, I hope you're all okay with being with me through all of this because it's just going to get harder from this point on," I said. "I've been told that there is danger ahead and I will need all of you there to help me get through it. If what I've been told is true though... it'll be rough." All of my pokemon looked at me seriously. Clover nudged me and I smiled at him, patting his head before he went back over to Violet's side. I smiled and I could just feel that they were all with them.
"Thanks everyone," I told them before we went to our room. Soon enough the whole group was asleep and I lied on the bed. I can hope that Silver was wrong, but I have a sneaking suspicion he's right. If so, I'll have to try to get in and out of that town as fast as I can. I thought, but then I thought about the man earlier. Then, I sat up quickly. Wait. Silver said they'd do something to get my attention. Azalea is known for their slowpoke well. Could it be...? I thought before biting my lip.
"If so, I have to go there and stop them before they do even more damage even if it may risk my own safety," I whispered, looking out the window at the Union Cave I'd have to go through tomorrow...
